Our Story
DBO Whitetails started in 2015 as a dream for owners Roger and Karen Tharpe to enable friends and family to experience world class Missouri whitetail and turkey hunting. Roger researched several areas of the Midwest for his dream and settled on a small community in Northeast Missouri called Shelbina, MO. Shelbina is located in a hot bed of prime agricultural areas known for growing monster whitetails. For 3 years he leased farms in and around the city of Shelbina and surrounding Shelby County area. He invited friends, family and selected guest and had tremendous success chasing and harvesting world class whitetails. Roger saw a business opportunity to open up his operation to to a select number of clients each year so he established DBO Whitetails at the end of 2017. He currently manages and has access to 12 farms with a little over 3000 acres of Missouri fields and hardwood bottoms. These farms are prime habitat for whitetail bucks and gobbling toms that Missouri is world famous for. The centerpiece for the business is the 4500 sq ft 6 bedroom, 6 Bath, Ponderosa Lodge. (One bathroom has handicap accessible shower) Finished in late 2018 this lodge is available to incoming hunters and their guests. Guest have use of a full kitchen with all the amenities. Also available is a 400 sq ft skinning shed for after the hunt success. The accommodations of the lodge and skinning shed are included in price of your hunting package
DBO offers a limited number of hunts each year starting with early season archery hunting and going into prime time heart pounding gun season during the rut. Late season post rut muzzle loader and bow is always an option for a last minute wall hangar looking for food in our agricultural fields and food plots.
All hunts are semi guided to the most active farm and stands possible. DBO runs approximately 75 game cameras on our farms looking for the hottest deer action for our clients. We have 30 box blinds, 60 ladder stands/lock ons, and 10 ground blinds over looking various hunting scenarios such as hardwood creek bottoms, agricultural fields, or prepared food plots. Local farmers also help us to be on the lookout for deer movement and rutting action on our various farms. DBO guides try our best to accommodate special requests as far as type of stand preference for our guests.
Our Hunt packages for whitetails are can be catered to your needs and time of year.
