There is a lovely little treat now in the Cottage fridge just waiting for your evening Aperitivo… Rougette Bonfire Marinated Grilling Cheese. This savory semi-soft cheese is pre-marinated in herbs and oil and comes in an aluminum pan for easy preparation. Just pop on the grill; cook to your liking and enjoy. Grilling cheese was a revelation to me… this is delightfully crispy and creamy. I cannot wait for our guests to try this deliciousness.

I am SO eager for these beauties to return to the farm. It has been slow going this year these beautiful buds stunted by stifling heat and bugs. I try to be patient remembering how little I wanted to do in the 110-degree heatwave. I have been spending my evening's weeding checking for thrips, earwigs and slug damage. We planted almost 1300 tubers this year and 30 new varieties making July a painful waiting game... open, open, open.

The cottage has a beautiful chef’s kitchen outfitted with all the tools and appliances you could dream of. Go ahead test me… I bet it's in there… ice cream maker, crock-pot, of course! I love to cook so I have also made sure that you have all the basic spices and herbs you could ever possibly want and, in the summer, you have fresh herbs in the flower beds to use. I had hoped to provide a kitchen that makes cooking and sharing meals a pleasure

Capped off the Cottage’s fall porch last week when I received a surprise piece of home from my mom. Our beautiful Cottage in the Oregon forest now sports a piece of New Mexico. Traditionally ristras are a way of drying and preserving chile pods for use in future cooking – I am sure this rainforest ristra will not be fit for consumption after a few weeks in our soggy climate.
Every fall after the chile harvest is over bright red ristras are seen everywhere. They serve as a symbol of welcome and are said to bring health and good luck. They are an iconic decoration during the fall and holidays!
