The Yalmar House

The Yalmar House Built in 1911 and renovated in 2024, The Yalmar House is located in Skandia Michigan in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This house was built in 1911.

The Yalmar House was a dream that my wife (Lori) had many years ago. She had always dreamed of renovating an old farmhouse. It was the house that my grandmother, Donna (McMaster) Tregembo grew up in. The house stayed in the family and was lived in by my great grandmother into the early 1980s. In the late 1980s my grandparents retired and moved back to 109 Yalmer Road*. My grandfather, Bill Tregemb

o, remodeled the house and they settled in on the property gardening, fishing, tying flies, hunting, and enjoying the beauty of Skandia. As a kid, I spent a lot of time with my grandparents and many of my fondest memories are in this house. For a wedding gift my grandparents gave Lori and I 20 acres to build on just east of their house. We built our house on in 2005. After my grandparents passed, my mom and her brothers divided up the family property. My mom received the house. Not really needing a 100+ year old house, she gave us the opportunity to renovate it. We began renovations (fortunately my father in law is a contractor) in early 2023 are excited to share Lori's longtime vision. We hope that you enjoy The Yalmar House as much as we do.

*You may wonder why we call it The Yalmar House and not The Yalmer House as the road is currently called. When my grandmother was a kid the road was called Yalmar (with an a). The road sign on the corner of Dalton Road is still spelled Yalmar. My grandma was always irked with the Yalmer spelling, so in honor of her annoyance we have appropriately named the property The Yalmar House.
