Slaton Harvey House State Historic Site Experience the legacy of The Slaton Harvey House! Join us for an overnight stay in our elegant B&B Most locals still refer to the building as “the depot”.

We invite you to stay with us at The Slaton Harvey House, a “Gem of the South Plains,” and a place where every event becomes a memorable occasion. It serves as a historic Bed & Breakfast serving the Lubbock area, an Event Center, and designated historic landmark by the State of Texas. The Slaton Harvey House first opened in 1912 by the Fred Harvey Company, furthering the company’s mission of offering quality meals at fast pace for train passengers of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The Harvey House venture closed in 1942, but the facility continued as a passenger and freight depot for many years. The building went into disrepair after ATS&F ceased operations from Slaton and was facing demolition when a group of locals and others with close connections mounted a successful effort to save and revive this landmark of Slaton and the Lubbock area. Place setting at Harvey House of SlatonNow in operation for more than ten years, the Slaton Harvey House provides Lubbock area travelers one of only two Bed and Breakfast options for Lubbock. We also offer a unique setting for family or company events, and an unforgettable backdrop for marital vows or receptions.

Happy 187th Birthday, Mary Ann (Aunt Molly) Goodnight! ❤

Mother of the Texas Panhandle, Mary Ann Dyer Goodnight, was born on this day in 1839 in Madison County, TN. Who knew that this Tennessee girl would grow up to become a Texas icon?

Mary Ann not only envisioned a better Texas for all, but also made that dream a reality. Mary Ann advocated for mothers, children, orphans, endangered animals, and her home, Palo Duro Canyon. To put her accomplishments into perspective, here are a few important facts about Mrs. Goodnight!

-Established Goodnight College, the only college in the world endowed by a bison herd!🏫

-After Goodnight College closed, Mary Ann helped turn the complex into an Annex for Buckner’s Family Home, providing 150 orphans with a place to live, grow, and be loved.🏠

-Stepped in to save bison calves from Buffalo Hunters, saving the Southern Plains Bison herd from extinction—preserving the last and only Native Bison herd in Texas.🦬

-Advocated for the creation of Palo Duro Canyon National Park and was on the Board of the Palo Duro National Park Association.🏜️

-Invited pioneer families into her home, where they were entertained, fed, and shown around the Goodnight Ranch.🥧

Here’s a moment from our station in the bandstand, and it was non stop! You can see the long line, but our volunteers kept it moving! The Slaton Bakery did a miraculous job of keeping us and the other pudding stops stocked up with our blueberry version and supplies.

Today we were once again blessed to serve as one of the four banana pudding stops at the Texas Banana Pudding Festival in Slaton! Once again hosted by the iconic Slaton Bakery, it drew thousands to the Slaton Square. A truly amazing day for our community. We were so busy punching tickets and handing out our blueberry version that we couldn't take many pictures but here are a few. Can't wait for the next one in 2027!
