Slaton Harvey House State Historic Site

Slaton Harvey House State Historic Site Experience the legacy of The Slaton Harvey House! Join us for an overnight stay in our elegant B&B Most locals still refer to the building as “the depot”.

We invite you to stay with us at The Slaton Harvey House, a “Gem of the South Plains,” and a place where every event becomes a memorable occasion. It serves as a historic Bed & Breakfast serving the Lubbock area, an Event Center, and designated historic landmark by the State of Texas. The Slaton Harvey House first opened in 1912 by the Fred Harvey Company, furthering the company’s mission of offer

ing quality meals at fast pace for train passengers of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The Harvey House venture closed in 1942, but the facility continued as a passenger and freight depot for many years. The building went into disrepair after ATS&F ceased operations from Slaton and was facing demolition when a group of locals and others with close connections mounted a successful effort to save and revive this landmark of Slaton and the Lubbock area. Place setting at Harvey House of SlatonNow in operation for more than ten years, the Slaton Harvey House provides Lubbock area travelers one of only two Bed and Breakfast options for Lubbock. We also offer a unique setting for family or company events, and an unforgettable backdrop for marital vows or receptions.

Tomorrow, our community of Slaton, Texas celebrates the Class of 2026!

We wish a special CONGRATULATIONS to our favorite local Harvey Girl, Ellie Culver, on her graduation from high school. Much of her childhood was spent at our Harvey House helping with programs, construction projects, and serving as Santa’s #1 elf. Ellie represents the next generation of history doers and we couldn’t be more proud.

We wish Ellie and the Class of 2026 Slaton High School Tigers all the best!

Happy National Volunteer Week!

Way back in 1989 a dedicated group of Slatonites courageously stopped the demolition of what is now the Slaton Harvey House State Historic Site. The community formed a non profit organization, Slaton Railroad Heritage Association, going on to raise millions to restore the building to its former glory. As they say, the rest is history!

Without the community’s intervention and commitment to preservation the Texas Historical Commission couldn’t tell the real stories of this very real place. Thank you to all of the volunteers, past and present, who tirelessly serve this West Texas gem. ❤️ 🚂
