Our data suggests that over 60% of our ducks that make an autumn migration return to within 30 miles of where they wintered the year before. These three individuals are part of the 40% that chose to winter somewhere outside of that 30-mile radius. All of these were captured and marked the previous winter in western TN. Here we show this year's return flights: the purple duck settled 400 miles away from its previous wintering location, green duck 100 miles away, and orange duck 280 miles away. Our ongoing research will dive into the factors that impact where ducks choose to settle in the winter and what affects return rates.
