On January 6, Epiphany, the sunrise and simultaneous moon set welcomed a single digit new day. The river is almost but not quite frozen on the surface!

I love the feast of epiphany, and the word itself. It harkens to seeking, trust, journey, curiosity, and revelation, understanding, fruition. And adventure!

On this day, may the moon and stars, the wise men and women who’ve taught and inspired you, and your own deepest soul seeking find a resting place within the confines of your magnificent heart. May you know you are loved, may you love yourself wholeheartedly, and may you trust that the impulse of gratitude and love is a guiding space of solace and homecoming, of sanctuary.

Puffins are awesome!
One of the 12 rooms at the River Raven Sanctuary Lodge (our sister lodge upriver) is called Puffin—named after these marvelous creatures! 😄

Dory the tufted puffin is Bird of the Week! 🧡

Dory was born in 2005 and is one special girl! She has formed strong bonds with the ASLC aviculturists and is even rumored to be the inspiration for a large puffin mural in downtown Seward!

Pegge Erkeneff, Dick and Stevie’s daughter (since 2004 she’s been helping out) purchased the former Kenai River Raven Wing, and is open. The Kenai River Raven is not currently open for guests.
