Fall cleanup day at The Back Eddy 🍂🧹
Raking leaves, pulling plants, clearing gutters, and tucking our small cabins in for winter. This is what getting ready for aurora season looks like in Soldotna.
For winter, our small cabins are now winterized so we're booking our Main Lodge ONLY for exclusive winter stays. The big lodge, the fire pit, all to yourself under the lights.
And for next year? We're already booking ALL cabins through October 15, 2027.
We can't wait to show you what's coming in '27. 💚

She’s back. ✨💚 The aurora season dances over The Back Eddy Lodge in the fall and winter months.
Aurora season has officially started over the Kenai River and there’s no better place to watch it than from the fire pit at the lodge.
P.S. for winter, our small cabins are winterized for the season, so winter stays are MAIN LODGE ONLY (exclusive-use, all to yourself, all that glow is yours).
And if you’re planning ahead: you can already book ANY cabin through October 15, 2027 for next fall season if the Northern Lights is on your bucket list of things to witness.

One of our favorite parts of doing business in Alaska? The people we meet along the way. 🤍

We recently had Shaun + John from Prospector John's out to tour The Back Eddy and these two are some of our favorites. Tamesha is big on building relationships with other local businesses, especially the people behind the experiences we recommend to our guests. And Prospector John’s in Cooper Landing has been sharing Alaska’s gold-mining history with visitors for more than 20 years through gold panning, sluicing and hands-on prospecting adventures. ✨

Now, John + Shaun are ready for their next chapter and Prospector John’s is looking for its next owner.

So we’re helping spread the word.

Breaking News: A rare sighting of the reluctant Alaskan hiker in the wild. 🌲🏔️

After being persuaded to climb a tree on a hike she did not want to attend, our subject makes contact with said tree.

Confused and disoriented, she immediately locates the nearest rock and identifies it as the assailant.

Upon further review of the slow-motion footage, investigators determined:

The rock was innocent.
Tamesha hit herself in the face with a tree.

The rock has been cleared of all charges. 😂

Some things you just can’t pose. 🤍

You can tell someone where to stand.
You can tell them where to walk.
You can even tell them where the good light is.

But you can’t manufacture the way someone looks at the person they’ve loved for years.

And Angela + Robert made that very obvious.

These two are 58 years old and somehow have the energy of two teenagers who just realized they have a crush on each other. 😂🤍

The touching. The laughing. The kisses. The way they naturally gravitate toward each other every time they’re close.

There was almost nothing to direct because this is just how they are.

And maybe that’s my favorite thing about film.

A photograph can freeze what love looks like.

But film lets you see all the tiny things that happen in between—the glance, the laugh, the hand reaching for the other one without even thinking about it.

After all the years and all the life lived together…

still this sweet on each other. 🍯

There are some places where the drive is part of the destination. 🍂🏔️

This was taken on a fall drive through Cooper Landing, winding alongside the Kenai with the mountains ahead and everything around us turning gold.

The kind of road where you stop caring how long Google Maps says you have left because you’re too busy looking out the window.

Windows down. No rush. Take the long way.

Because when you’re in Alaska, sometimes the scenic route is the whole point. 🤍

And when the road finally brings you back to The Back Eddy, we’ll have a place waiting for you on the Kenai.

Come for Alaska. Come home to The Back Eddy.

Alaska already has the mountains.
The rivers.
The wildlife.
The kind of views that make you stop mid-sentence because whatever you were talking about suddenly seems significantly less important.

It has early mornings on the Kenai, long drives where the scenery keeps getting better, and those moments when you realize your camera is never going to quite capture what it feels like to actually stand here.

It’s got just about everything.

But it sure would be prettier with you. 🤍

So if Alaska has been sitting on that “someday” list for a little too long, maybe it’s time to stop watching everyone else experience it.

We’ll have a place waiting for you on the Kenai.
