Labor Day: the unofficial end of summer. 🌲

And up here in Alaska, Mother Nature tends to take that pretty seriously. 🍂

The mornings are getting cooler. The days are getting a little shorter. Green is slowly giving way to gold, and another beautiful Alaska summer is beginning to wind down.

But before we rush into the next season, today feels like a good day to appreciate this one.

The guests who became friends. The fish that were caught and the ones that definitely got away. The muddy boots. The early mornings. The late sunsets. The stories told around the fire. And all the families who chose to spend a little piece of their summer with us on the Kenai.

To everyone working today, enjoying a well-earned day off, or squeezing in one last summer adventure…

ALASKA is beautiful—but it’s even better when you experience it with friends. 🏔️

On their drive down from the Wasilla area, Ann and Lynn brought their friends April and Blake to explore Whittier—a small Alaska town where the mountains, waterfalls, and coastal beauty are right in your face everywhere you look.

From there, these Texas friends continued to The Back Eddy Lodge in Soldotna, where they settled in and enjoyed the flowers, peaceful Kenai River views, quiet evenings, and a delicious local dinner at Addie Camp.

During their stay, they took a trip to Seward. Ann and Lynn hiked to Exit Glacier while April and Blake experienced the breathtaking scenery and wildlife of Kenai Fjords on a boat tour.

Alaska may be bigger than Texas, but our Texas friends certainly bring a whole lot of heart! It really is a small world, and we love welcoming familiar Texas faces to our little corner of Alaska.

Thank you, Ann and Lynn, and April and Blake, for sharing your Alaska adventure with us and making The Back Eddy Lodge your home away from home. We loved having you here and can’t wait to welcome you all back. Don’t be strangers! ❤️

A little love, collected from all over Alaska. 🤍

If you look closely around The Back Eddy, you’ll find little pieces of Alaska everywhere—including a growing collection of heart-shaped rocks.

Whenever Sabrina and some guests are out exploring and happens to find one, it makes its way back to the lodge for Tamesha. Somewhere along the way, one heart became two… then three… and now she has quite the little collection. 🤍

Different beaches. Different rivers. Different adventures.

All finding their way back home to The Back Eddy.

Maybe it’s silly, but we think there’s something pretty special about collecting little reminders of the places you’ve been and the people you thought of while you were there.

And apparently, Alaska has a lot of love to give. 🌲🤍

A huge thank you to Bryan and Felica McBride for choosing The Back Eddy Lodge for their Alaska adventure! 🌲❤️

These two definitely didn’t come to Alaska to sit still.

They headed out of Homer for a multi-species ocean charter, went gold mining with Gold-N-Boat, took a fly-out trip to Wolverine Creek and Big River Lakes, hiked the Russian River where they spotted bears, and still found time to fish right here from the banks of the Kenai River at the lodge. 🎣🐻✨

That’s the kind of Alaska trip we love to see…getting out, exploring the Kenai Peninsula, trying something new, and coming home to The Back Eddy at the end of the day.

Bryan and Felica, thank you for spending part of your Alaska story with us. We hope you headed home with plenty of fish, a little gold, a camera roll full of Alaska, and a whole lot of good memories.

We loved having you and hope we get to welcome you back to the Kenai again someday. 🤍
