Access improvements underway on US 160 in South Fork
Plan for alternating traffic and lengthy delays
Traffic Update: June 15 through 18
Rio Grande County — On Monday, June 15, Asphalt Constructors Inc. will begin paving operations on US Highway 160 in South Fork between Chinook Drive and Park Drive (approx. Mile Point 186). US 160 will be widened to allow for a new business access, including turn lanes and eastbound deceleration and acceleration lanes. Motorists can expect alternating traffic and up to 20 minute delays through June 18.
The project began on June 1 and is being completed to accommodate future traffic patterns into the current convenience store and gas station at 115 Mall Street. This access improvement project is for a private development being funded by Basecamp Convenience LLC. The design and construction is permitted and overseen by CDOT traffic and safety staff. Construction will include shoulder work, pavement widening and updated paint striping.
Motorists are encouraged to check the latest traffic impacts on COtrip.org or on the COtrip Planner app.
Traffic Impacts:
Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some Saturday work. Traffic impacts will include:
Plan for 15 to 20-minute delays, full stops and alternating traffic during paving operations, June 15 to 18
Motorists will encounter lane shifts and traffic pattern changes throughout early August
Drivers are urged to slow down and watch for flaggers and signage signaling lane shifts and lane closures
