May 23-25 Memorial Day Weekend - This year’s 38th Annual Taste of Creede Festival will showcase local art and cuisine on Main Street. This annual event was envisioned by local artist Stephen Quiller and the Taste of Creede Festival will delight visitors with inspired art, theatre, live music and great food.

Wander among the 25+ artists on Main Street Saturday, as they bring to life their latest works. Pick a bench in Basham Park and enjoy listening to live music while noshing delectable treats. Sample the flavors of this unique boomtown with a local chefs competition and tasty demos!

Peek into the Creede Repertory Theatre to grab tickets for a production of Fully Committed, which follows an aspiring actor through his dizzying and chaotic work day at one of New York's busiest and most exclusive restaurants- sure to bring a thousand laughs! Summer Vacation Planning Part 3: Let’s continue our summer planning with a trip to a local gem: Treasure Falls. Just a short drive west of Alpine Accents, the falls carry the name of the mountain above them—a place where old-timers say a fortune in gold remains hidden to this day.

It’s a majestic sight, watching the water tumble 105 feet toward the San Juan River. The walk up is a gentle half-mile, though it can get a bit greasy when the weather turns. I always recommend the misting deck; there’s nothing quite like the rainbows that dance in the spray when the sun hits it just right. If you’ve got the boots for it, the unimproved trail offers a nice little adventure on the way back down.

Directions: Just follow US 160 west from South Fork or from our cabins at Alpine Accents over Wolf Creek pass. You’ll find the lot waiting for you at the bottom of the final switchback. Whether it’s frozen in ice or flowing in the summer heat, it’s always worth the stop.

At nearly 11,500 feet, Summitville wasn't just a mining camp; it was a battle against the elements. Gold was first pulled from these San Juan peaks in the 1870s, but the mountains didn’t give it up easily.

For years, the camp (originally just "Summit") was a ghost town every winter. It wasn't until hard-rock mining took hold in 1875 that anyone dared stay through the snow. Even then, the mountains usually won. By February 1891, the massive Annie mills—which ran sixty stamps day and night—would finally go silent, sending a mass exodus of miners down to Del Norte to wait for the thaw. When you look at the ruins today, imagine 1,000 souls carved out a life here in one of Colorado's highest, harshest, and most golden districts.

Located north of Creede, this route provides both picturesque scenery and significant historic markers, serving as a testament to the town's origins and the continuation of its mining industry.
For optimal navigation, comprehensive maps are readily available throughout Creede, meticulously produced by the Creede/Mineral County Chamber of Commerce. These resources delineate key points of interest along the 17-mile drive.
Along the byway, visitors will observe the tangible remnants of ephemeral boom towns that emerged in the 1890s to accommodate the rapid influx of miners and their families. The initial designated stop on the tour is the West Willow/East Willow Creek Junction, which signifies the establishment site of the original town of Creede at the inception of the boom period.
The tour then proceeds to the former Weaver Town Site, though significant structural evidence is sparse. This settlement was strategically situated at the confluence of the Amethyst and Last Chance mines. The fifth designated stop, located a short distance further, precisely identifies the actual mine sites responsible for the silver production that catalyzed the mining boom.
