If you’re looking for one of the best sunset views in all of South Lake Tahoe, check out Cave Rock, a large rock formation on the southeastern shore that’s visible from almost any point on the lake. Once a part of the neck of a volcanic vent that existed about 5 million years ago, Cave Rock is considered a sacred site for the Washoe Indians. They named it “The Lady of the Lake” after a profile of a woman's face gazing out toward the lake. She is best viewed by boat from north of the rock, close to shore and in the morning or early afternoon hours.
