Legend has it (at least for this weekend) that the ghosts of Captain Eldridge and his crew have returned to his birthplace to haunt the hotel bearing the same name as his beloved ship. Join Captain Asa Eldridge and his ghoulish c

rew for a fun-filled spooky weekend at the Red Jacket Beach Resort. Built in Rockland, Maine in 1853, and named after a Native American Chief of the Seneca Tribe, the clipper ship Red Jacket was known as the “swiftest clipper of her time.” On her maiden voyage in 1854 she set a record for the fastest trans-Atlantic crossing by a commercial sailing vessel. That record remains unbroken to this day, more than 150 years after it was established. The story of the clipper ship Red Jacket and the Haunted Hotel begins on the foggy shores of Yarmouth, Cape Cod. Born in 1809 to a family of Yarmouth seamen, Asa Eldridge, the ship’s first captain, was one of the most respected captains to sail the seas. Captain Eldridge continued his prestigious sailing career until 1856, when his ship and all those aboard mysteriously disappeared during a winter crossing of the Atlantic.
