The Gleason Family properties located on Southport Island off Boothbay Harbor, Maine are available for weekly summer rentals. The property features 2 houses, Wild Acres & Loafing Rocks, which are both scenically situated overlooking the mouth of the Sheepscot River, Seguin and Mark Islands, and little Christmas Cove. The 1300 feet of shoreline run from the dock at Christmas Cove, where there is a

small anchorage including a few lobster boats, past the two houses to “Little Sandy” beach. The woods are lush and green, the point by the cove is a sloped meadow and the field where Wild Acres was originally located is grassy with old apple trees and old lilacs surrounding the original foundation for the house. There are paths through the woods that lead up and down the coast and to each of the neighboring houses. Each of the houses has spectacular views with a very secluded feel. The dock and one mooring give us better access to the water and the surrounding rivers and islands. The Gleason family history of this property dates back to the 1920s when Charles and Eleanor Gleason purchased the property as a vacation house. In 1937 a dear friend of Eleanor’s purchased the small point where Loafing Rocks is now located. The friend, Ms Pennington, built a cute summer cottage sitting on top of the rocks as her summer retreat from teaching school in New Jersey. When she died in the 1970s the property was sold back to the Gleason family. Wild Acres, the bigger house, was moved in 1947 from the apple orchard to overlook the water and the mouth of Christmas Cove. Their family soon grew to include 5 children all of whom are now grown with families of their own. The two houses make for fun family times during the spring and fall seasons when they are not available to rent. The houses each have a warm lived-in feeling with plenty of Down East charm.
