🪵 Where Leadership Begins

The final night of NYLT is always something special. Right now, the participants are out together under the stars, cooking up foil packets and roasting s’mores over the open fire.

They say campfires are where memories are made. But around here, it's also where the "sausage is made"—where the abstract concepts of communication, conflict resolution, and team dynamics truly become second nature.

These youth arrived less than a week ago as individuals. Tonight, they sit together as cohesive, self-reliant teams. They aren't just learning how to lead; they are living it.

The fire will eventually fade to ash, but the bonds forged and the confidence gained this week will last a lifetime. This is where the future begins.

☀️ Sun’s Out, Utensils Out! ☀️

The rain is holding off, and Patrols of MTC 030 are turning up the heat at Latimer Reservation! 🔥
Right now, our youth leaders are out in their patrol sites cooking up a storm for lunch. But this week isn't just about making great food—it's about mastering the real-world skills that build great leaders. From planning menus to dividing up the cooking duties and mastering the art of the patrol cleanup, these scouts are learning what it truly means to work as a team.

🏕️ What’s on the Menu This Week?
Leadership in Action: Learning to lead under pressure (and hungry stomachs!).

Patrol Teamwork: Cooking and cleaning together to keep camp running smoothly.

High Energy: Taking advantage of this beautiful, non-rainy weather!

"A patrol that cooks together, leads together." 🧑‍🍳✨

We are so proud of the incredible growth we are already seeing on day one. Stay tuned all week long as MTC 030 continues to sharpen their leadership skills here at Latimer!

🌲 Welcome to NYLT Course 030! 🌲

The wait is officially over! Today, the gates of Latimer High Adventure Reservation opened to welcome the incredible youth leaders of Middle Tennessee Council's NYLT Course 030.

A huge thank you to all the parents and guardians who made the trip out today to drop off their scouts. We know it’s a big week ahead, and we promise they are in excellent hands for an unforgettable week of leadership development, fellowship, and lifelong memories.

🍽️ On the Menu: Day 1 Dinner
If you're wondering how they're holding over after setup, the legendary Latimer kitchen crew absolutely crushed Day 1. The scouts kicked off their week with a hearty, home-cooked feast:
Main Course: Creamy Chicken Fettuccine 🍗🍝
Sides: Warm, fresh rolls 🥖
Dessert (The main event!): Warm Dutch oven Peach Cobbler and Chocolate Cherry Cobbler 🍑🍒🍫

🚀 What's Next?
With full stomachs and high energy, the patrols are already bonding, setting up camp, and diving straight into the fundamentals of what makes a great leader. Keep an eye on our page all week long—we will be sharing updates and photos as these scouts challenge themselves, grow together, and learn to Be, Know, and Do.

Welcome to camp, Course 030. Let’s make it a great week!

What a spectacular, action-packed weekend we just had at Latimer Reservation! 🌲⛺️

From honoring our veterans to welcoming scouts on the trails and lakes, the energy at camp was absolutely incredible. Here is a look at what went down:

🎣 Nashville Project Healing Waters
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc.
It was our absolute privilege to host Nashville Project Healing Waters as they spent time teaching veterans the art of fly fishing.

🍽️ Kitchen MVPs
A massive shoutout to Jacki and Stacey, who worked tirelessly in the kitchen Saturday night! They whipped up an incredible, well-deserved dinner of fried catfish, hush puppies, and waffle fries for the Healing Waters group. 🐟🍟

🥾 Pack 861 & Troop 861
The scouts set up camp in Tent City and hit the beautiful Bee Creek Trail for a hike, enjoying what can only be described as absolutely perfect weather. ☀️

🛶 Pack 328
Over at the Observatory, Pack 328 set up camp and took to the water, spending some fantastic quality time kayaking all around Lake Joe Long. 🌊

🛍️ Squatchy’s Outpost

What a weekend at Latimer Reservation! 🌲✨ We had the property buzzing with scouts, skills, and even a little "liquid sunshine."

Bledsoe Creek & Percy Priest District Camporee 🔎
The Observatory was home base for a weekend of incredible food and serious skill-building. Scouts dove deep into Search and Rescue training, putting everything they learned to the test on Sunday morning during a mission to find Wilson! (Mission accomplished! ✅)

Commissioners in Action 🤝
It was also great to see so many Commissioners out at the Camporee! We are looking forward to seeing those strong unit connections continue to grow throughout the rest of April.

Pack 507 & Troop 105 🏕️
A huge shoutout to these groups for holding down the fort at the NYLT field. It was great to see you all enjoying the best of what Latimer has to offer.

Weather Report 🌦️🌈
Saturday gave us a bit of everything! We started with warm sun, moved into a rainy afternoon (we prefer "liquid sunshine" around here), and ended the day with a spectacular sunset and rainbows.

Squatchy’s Outpost 👣
It was awesome seeing so many faces stop by the Outpost for refreshments and to grab the latest Squatchy gear. Thanks for making it a weekend to remember!

Rangemaster Training
We also had Monte Holt and Tom Kelly instructing Rangemaster Training for a few Scouters who are now ready to run the range for their Cub Scout Pack!

A big shout out to Samuel Elrod District Executive for Percy Priest, it was great seeing you at Latimer Reservation!

Credit to Erin Morey for the rainbow pictures.

Another fantastic weekend is in the books here at Latimer Reservation! 🌲🏕️ We had a packed house with some incredible scouts and leaders getting things done. Here is a quick recap of all the action:

A huge shoutout to Troop 946 from the Great Smoky Mountain Council! They camped out in Tent City, hit the trails on our mountain bikes, and knocked out some serious conservation service hours. They worked incredibly hard spreading dirt to start our brand-new zinnia flower garden right in front of the Tolbert Center. It was so exciting to see this crew so motivated to help out! 🌻🚴‍♂️

NYLT MTC 031 SD2 was also in full swing! Scott Peebles and his dedicated crew were hard at work preparing for the 2nd NYLT course coming up in July. If you haven't registered yet, do it now before all the spots are gone! ⛺️📅

We also have to give a massive thank you to Jeff and his crew! They were working tirelessly in the kitchen all weekend fixing up some absolutely great food for everyone. 🍽️👨‍🍳

Overall, it was another amazing weekend at Squatchy’s Outpost. We loved seeing so many of you stop by for cold drinks, ice cream, and fresh Squatchy gear. Make sure to come check out our brand new Squatchy stickers next time you visit—you are definitely going to want to grab one of these! 🍦🧢👣
