Of everything lost in a fire, sometimes it’s the little pieces of your normal life that mean the most. 🙏🏻

This week, Alicia invited some of the women Slumber helped place after the fires to come take a spin class at The Union.

One of the women who came shared with Alicia that spin had been such an important part of her life — and that her spin bike was lost in the fire.

Alicia had no idea when she extended that invitation.

And this is where we need to give a very special shoutout to Alicia 🩵

Throughout this relief effort, she has continued to remind us that helping families rebuild isn’t only about finding them somewhere to live. It’s about getting to know them. Listening. Paying attention to the things that matter to them.

And when Alicia and The Union community learned how much this mattered to her, they made sure a new spin bike — complete with a bow — was waiting inside the rental Slumber helped set up for her.

Because yes, people need housing.
They need beds, furniture, groceries and household essentials.

But after losing so much, sometimes getting one little piece of your life back matters, too.

To Alicia Newman and The Union Studios community: thank you for seeing her, listening to her, and giving her back something that feels like her. 💗

And to every person who continues to show up for these families in ways big and small — this is what community looks like.

This is what it looks like when a community comes together. 🩷

Two entire households of furniture. Two homes professionally staged. Two families who will get to walk into spaces this week that feel a little more like home.

A huge thank you to 509Staging for stepping up in an incredible way—donating TWO full households of furniture and then going even further by professionally staging each home for the families Slumber is placing.

And thank you to Whitaker Family Furniture for donating two twin mattresses to help make sure these homes were truly ready for the families walking through their doors.

Slumber is placing two families into these newly furnished homes this week, and none of this happens without local businesses and community members choosing to show up.

Furniture becomes a place to sit together.
A mattress becomes a safe place to sleep.
An empty house becomes somewhere a family can begin to settle in.

This is community.
This is neighbors taking care of neighbors.
And these are the local heroes helping us make it happen. 🩷

As Slumber continues helping individuals and families displaced by the Spokane Complex Fires find temporary housing, we’re looking for volunteers to fill two important roles:

INTAKE ADVOCATES You’ll answer or return calls from relief victims, listen with empathy, and document each household’s specific housing needs. Experience in social services, trauma-informed care, crisis response, healthcare, case management, or a similar field is strongly preferred.

HOUSEHOLD NEEDS SHOPPERS You’ll help source, purchase, pick up, and organize the essential items each household needs for their temporary home—from groceries and toiletries to bedding and everyday necessities.

Both roles require compassion, reliability, discretion, and a genuine willingness to meet people where they are during an incredibly difficult time.
