Dear Brothers and Sisters,
My name is Allen Eveland, and I am running for Local 86 President. I respectfully ask for your vote on October 11 and would consider it a privilege to serve as your Local President.
Our local lodge has a strong foundation made up of multiple trade crafts of aircraft assemblers, diesel mechanics, helicopter mechanics, Fairchild pilot trainers, journeymen machinists and much more. I have been an active member for over 21 years and have witnessed the strength we have when we work together as One United Union.
I am a Journeyman Machinist at ASC Machine Tool and have spent more than two decades as an active shop floor leader, volunteering for various roles committees and activities in our union and gaining experience in each position including Steward, District Council Alternate and Shop Floor Rep in negotiations.
Our union consists of many active members that volunteer and put in a lot of hours to make us successful in the shops and in our communities. Six years ago, I helped start the Eastern Washington Trap Shoot with the premise of bringing us all together, showing our involvement to the community and supporting Guide Dogs of America, it has grown each year in its success. I believe it takes commitment, dedication, solidarity and a willingness to want to grow, which is why my team of candidates remain involved in many committees and activities.
I believe it is critical we have representation for our local from among members working at various employers. My opponent has nominated only members from his own shop (Triumph) and feels since they are the largest bargaining unit only members from Triumph should run the local. In addition, earlier this year my opponent for president resigned from all his union positions, stopped participating in union activities and currently holds no elected union position.
Nothing happens at our union unless you get involved and bring ideas forward. It is important to lead by example and to stay involved in every aspect of our Lodge no matter how difficult the challenge or what shop you are from. Our local has built a strong foundation by selecting leaders from multiple trade crafts at various employers. The candidates I am running with have reached out to all bargaining units, including Triumph, and have a lot of support. We are running on the premise we stay united by working together as One United Union and we all have a part to play in the leadership of this local to grow our union for the future.
As experienced union leaders, we have the unwavering commitment to build our union, the confidence and courage to make tough decisions. We are ready to continue the work of building a Strong Union, bargain good contracts, and involve all our members in every aspect of our union. Please take the time to vote on October 11 to ensure
members at every employer have a voice in our leadership.
In Solidarity,
Allen Eveland
