The latest non-emergency renovation project at This Old 1899 House is a new concept suite for us. We've restored what was once one of the six small apartments to a better-than-original bachelor suite. We hope to offer this, starting Septemb er 1st, attracting week-to-week clients such as visiting nurses, professors, technicians or other business persons.
The new "Gerda Suite", named for the original Powell family's only daughter, is a 205-square foot room, holding a large closet and bureau, a full-feature bathroom (with heated towel rack), and a small but well-appointed kitchen. It is perfect for one person, with its full-sized Murphy bed, desk and chair, couch and TV. Its done in shades of blue, ivory and white, with some oak accents.
Unlike the day-to-day B&B suites, Gerda's features are all new, from its shower to its refrigerator-freezer, glass-topped cook stove, coffee maker and microwave oven. It's a second-floor, corner suite (window views west and north), bright and airy, with central air and heat, plus ceiling fan and lighting. We hope it will offer coziness and comfort as a home-away-from home, for slightly longer stays. Linens, dishes, and wi-fi are included. Guests provide their own food, keep everything clean and in good repair, take care of their trash, and do their own laundry nearby.
They have a private guest entry, free corner curb parking, and trash/recycle access.
We're working out issues like rental rates (with and without weekend days), and damage deposits. Sorry, we cannot accept pets or children, and while all of the State is cannabis-friendly, no smoking, va**ng, or open flame of any kind may be used inside. Use of porches is fine though.
So, everybody, what do you think?
