My short list recommendations for local "Southern things" to do with your nephew: 1. Catch lightening bugs. Make a nite lite w/jar, holes poked in lid, some grass. Be sure to release them in the morning. 2. Go to a drive-in movie. Take your own Knott's pimento cheese sandwiches, Moon Pies and RC Colas for snacks. (Birdsong Drive-in in Camden) 3. Wade in a creek. Lots of creeks at LBL, and you can check out The Home Place while you are there. 4. Introduce him to the concept of the "Meat & Three" and SWEET TEA. Take Me Back Café is the perfect place. 5. Teach him to say "Ma'am" and "Sir". 6. Visit The Heritage Center. Ask about their resident ghost. 7. Fort Donelson in Dover to help understand the impact of the Civil War. Be sure to catch a "Battle Chat" with a ranger. Current exhibit on loan from NHS. 8. Early morning walk around historic Paris City Cemetery. Visit monument dedicated to African Americans who's graves are unmarked. Then, to breakfast for biscuits and gravy! 9. Movie, music, and mirth night: Watch "To Kill a Mockingbird", dance/sing along to blues/soul/gospel music, laugh to old Jerry Clower recordings. 10. Check out local artists' work at T.F. Rice & Co. for gifts to take back home.
