One of the things that made us fall in love with Greene County, Virginia was our first drive down 33. As you approach Stanardsville, the mountains loom larger and larger. It is a special place. The entrance to our first property will be just around the bend in this picture, on the left. Nothing will change about this view, except that we will put more trees at the entrance on Celt Road.

It has been a minute! We are pleased to share early design ideas for our 1-bedroom deluxe tent. This 532 square feet tent is designed for couples, but can accommodate up to 4. It is the larger of our two 1-bedroom options, and 1 of 4 tent types at Sojourner. Shout out to Sojourner Co-founder Andy Murphy as he gets ready for the Boston Marathon on Monday! Andy is running as part of the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge Team and is raising money to end cancer. Andy is running in memory of his Dad, in honor of his Mom’s cancer battle, and in honor and memory of the loved one’s of many friends and family. This is marathon #17 for Andy and his 7th Boston, but his first since turning 50. You can learn more about his campaign here: http://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/goto/RunningforDad

We do not know about you, but we love stars, and so do sojourners. Dark Sky Lighting is essential to reduce light pollution and allow for stargazing. Dark skies at night are also essential for nature and for human health. Did you know that Flagstaff Arizona, a city of over 70,000 people, uses some of the best amber dark-sky lighting techniques in the world, and residents can see the Milky Way standing in a Walmart parking lot?! Flagstaff is a certified International Dark Sky Community, and more and more communities around the world are adopting dark-sky lighting ordinances, as well.

Sojourner will adopt the dark sky principle in its lighting design. What is dark sky lighting? It's simply a way of lighting that helps keep the sky dark by fully shielding the light bulb on the top and sides so the light is directed down rather than to the sides and up to the sky. It is amber in color instead of blue, green or white. It is dimmed and no brighter than necessary, is only used where or when needed, and often uses timers or motion detectors.
