I’m a rodent, Jim, not a meteorologist!

Well, it’s Groundhog Day…again. It’s the one time where social media really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather. Groundhogs, also known as woodchucks or whistlepigs, are the largest members of the squirrel family. If the groundhog sees its shadow, legend has it that winter will last for six more weeks. If it doesn’t, we can expect early spring. Do groundhogs really believe they’re good at weather forecasting? Time will tell. About six weeks from now.

Horseback Rides at Graves Mountain Farm & Lodges in the Blue Ridge Mountains and into Shenandoah National Park are for beginners to experts with our stable managers - Circle H Equine.
Joey, Casey, Devon, and Ashley will guide you onto the horse and take you out for the horseback ride you have chosen.

What are the rides like?
One hour and a half trail rides are for all riders. You will cross streams, open fields, orchards, and woodlands. You will be walking on the general rides. The horses are especially chosen to be careful and consistent. There is a maximum of eight riders for each trail ride time frame.

Excited for views like this? 🍁😍 Ready or not, fall is fast approaching. You may already notice trees in your area changing color and dropping leaves, especially black gum, tulip poplar, black walnut, American sycamore, and maple trees. 🍂 👀 Trees stressed by drought, disease, pests, and other environmental factors also tend to change earlier.

Our weekly fall foliage reports will resume in late September, depending on foliage conditions. 🔜 📆 Be sure to keep an eye out on our socials for updates to help plan your leaf-peeping adventures.

We love the fire pit at our cabin, but we want all guests to know and abide by local burn bans. Virginia restricts fires before 4pm during the dry season between February and April. Enjoy the fire pit responsibly!

A strong cold front will bring heavy rain & high winds to the region later today. Southerly winds are gusting up to 25 mph this morning with 40-55 mph gusts expected later this afternoon into tonight as the front passes. Winds will continue Thursday before diminishing Thursday night.
