Why do we love our site in Greene County, Virginia? Proximity to the mountains and Shenandoah National Park, for 1. Also, the opportunity to have a positive economic impact on the town of Stanardsville and beyond. Plus, we just like creating amazing places for families and friends to enjoy and appreciate the outdoors.

We are grateful today. Last night the Greene County Board of Supervisors voted to approve our request to add an additional 70 acres to our special use permit. The change allows us to reduce the density of the project, move accommodation away from neighboring properties, and provide a better experience to all who visit. This has been a 33 month journey, and we appreciate all who have supported us in ways big and small. Now the burden is on us to show we can be good neighbors and partners. To create an experience and destination that promotes economic revitalization in Stanardsville and the surrounding area and that all residents of Greene County, Virginia can be proud of.

One of the things that made us fall in love with Greene County, Virginia was our first drive down 33. As you approach Stanardsville, the mountains loom larger and larger. It is a special place. The entrance to our first property will be just around the bend in this picture, on the left. Nothing will change about this view, except that we will put more trees at the entrance on Celt Road.

It has been a minute! Before the long weekend, we wanted to share some early design ideas for our 1-bedroom deluxe tent, the larger of our two bedroom options. This 532 square feet tent is made for couples, but can accommodate up to 4, and will be one of 4 tent types at Sojourner. Shout out to Sojourner Co-founder Andy Murphy as he gets ready for the Boston Marathon on Monday! Andy is running as part of the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge Team and is raising money to end cancer. Andy is running in memory of his Dad, in honor of his Mom’s cancer battle, and in honor and memory of the loved ones of many friends and family. This is marathon #17 for Andy and his 7th Boston, but his first since turning 50. You can learn more about his campaign here: http://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/goto/RunningforDad

Sojourner co-founders Dionis and Andy were in New York City last week for Demo Day of Harvard Business School’s New Venture Competition. It was a great day in a fantastic space connecting with judges, alumni, and fellow founders.

We love this photo of the main field at our Greene County property, especially the contrast of the grass with trees and sky. We wrapped up soil testing last week and looks like we have great soils! We will now design our water and septic systems based on the results. Next up, engineering the bridge for the Blue Run stream crossing. Step by step, we will get there!
