Forty years ago today - May 26, 1986 - this inn opened her doors for the very first time.
I tried to celebrate properly.
The inn had other plans.
🕯️🦢 Happy 40th Birthday, Whistling Swan Inn. The longest continuously operating bed and breakfast in Northern New Jersey. Still humbling me daily.

A winter storm blew out the panels to the greenhouse. I figured out how to replace them. Added some twinkly lights and a little seating area. The seedlings have been started. I’m sourcing shelves. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

Showed up for my son’s final performance of the year.

Fire alarm had other plans.

We went outside. They kept playing. Of course they did.

Worth every minute. 🦢🎷

Change the filter.

No really. Change the filter.

I learned this the hard way at 4pm on a Thursday, temps in the 80’s, with a full inn and an AC unit that had turned itself into a block of ice.

When the filter is clogged the air has nowhere to go. No airflow means the pipes freeze solid. No cold air. Just a very expensive looking ice sculpture.

Good news - easy fix. Defrosted it. Changed the filter. We are now cool as a cucumber.

Mama the cat, however, was unbothered the entire time.

But the cat’s fine.
