The Miller House

When I was cleaning in the barn last week I discovered this tiny footprint in the concrete at the bottom of the interior stairs.

Since it had been owed by the Miller Family since the late 1800’s I wonder whose it is?
I also wonder if this was “an opps “when the floor was poured in the early 1900’s. It doesn’t appear to be planned, there is an indention to the left of the footprint but it’s hard to tell what it is because of the stairs in the way.

Our decision to sell The Miller House and Barn was not made lightly. As we have gotten older we realize what we want to invest our time and energy in and what our physical capability will be moving forward.

We are passionately devoted to preserving this historic property and ensuring it can have the potential to produce the income needed to do this. We have said all along our hope is to save it so that it can be enjoyed by many and be around and preserved for generations to come.

Our intentions have been to provide an opportunity as historic places need a sustainable purpose if they are to survive.

As we go into fall season October will see guests arriving. Randy and I have enjoyed the last few months occupying the house and hosted in at least 1 w**e tasting event . Hopefully there will be more tastings to come next year.

Please keep my family and friends and the wildlife as well as all volunteers and paid first responders in your thoughts and prayers the next few days as they are challenged by fires on The Massanutten range of the Blue Ridge Mountain. It is traveling down into both the western side and eastern side of the mountain into neighboring counties. Which are all part of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Over 4k without power in my county of Page alone with many areas urged to evacuate with shelters in place at Luray High School.

We also have a historic house and barn there. As well as real estate in Luray.

This picture was taking early Wednesday evening from route 211 west looking toward the Massanutten Mountain.

Our major project at The Miller House this year is putting in a solid oak floor in the large back portion of the barn. After a new all over paint job a few years ago we are ready to start improvements inside.

The inside improvements also include adding large antique doors in the back to open up the space to take in the lovely views outback as well as adding an antique stained glass to replace the original door in the top.

This is something we have looked forward too for sometime. No plans for any special uses of the space at this time. But I certainly see the many possibilities.

Thanks to Bobby Turner and Wayne and Derrick Cubbage of Precision Trim for doing such a great job.
