Beckwith Lodge Beckwith's Lodge - Stanley, Idaho is the Gateway to the Sawtooths and the Salmon River

09/13/2024

just an update from Stanley in September 2024. We are so grateful to all of the firefighters, Custer county sheriffs and all of the community residents who rallied during the recent wildfires. Beckwith Lodge is fine and we feel very lucky to be situated where we are. To my knowledge, no structures have been lost to this massive fire so kudos to the fire suppression and protection teams. Thank you.

Unaffected, pristine, and planted at the foot of the Sawtooth Mountains on the banks of the Salmon River, Stanley, Idaho defines natural beauty.

Great info for spring travelers to the Stanley area.

Itching for a spring adventure in the Sawtooths?
Here's some advice from Stanley locals:
🗣"Maybe give steelhead fishing a try?"
🗣"This is a great time of year to drive through Stanley on your way to somewhere else."

As the season changes at lower elevations, you may be tempted to head for the Sawtooths to have them all to yourselves. We get it, but may we suggest checking out our Redfish We**am before you decide you are going to attempt an epic snow march.

☑️Forest roads are closed through April 30th (even if your smartphone says otherwise). This will add 1 to 8+ miles to your trip.
☑️The stability of the snow pack continues to change as it cycles through daily freeze and thaw.
☑️Using crampons and an ice ax are a necessity in case you lose your footing on an icy snowfield.
☑️You'll need to pack out your p**p using WAG bags because the ground is too frozen for proper cathole disposal and stashing it in a snowbank is not okay.

One of our supervolunteers, Hannah, created this handy elevation reference. You can use it with our we**am to help determine the snow level - an important step in planning ahead!

Avalanche information.

Avalanche information.

The danger is CONSIDERABLE. Avalanche conditions remain scary. You are likely to trigger a large, 2-4 foot thick avalanche—even in lower elevation terrain near the valley floors—on many steep slopes. Avalanches may be triggered remotely—from gentler terrain above, below, and to the sides of steep slopes. Be careful. Visit www.sawtoothavalanche.com for details. Photo: S Cordovano.
