Why am I seeing all of these Bald Eagles out my back door! I found out! In 1985 the Indiana Bald Eagle Reintroduction Program began. 73 eaglets 7-8 weeks old were brought to Indiana. The birds monitored and fed daily until they were old enough to fly at 11-12 weeks. Their primary diet is fish. The Tippecanoe River very seldom completely freezes over. Wintering eagles prefer trees along open bodies of water for daytime perches. It is common for eagles to roost in small groups in the winter. In 2020 there were more than 350 nesting territories in Indiana. Now we know.
