The Hotel Main in downtown Steelville, Missouri, was constructed in 1908 using pressed-form concrete blocks in the common βBroken Ashlerβ pattern. The modern hotel building included a lobby, reading lounge, dining room, and several guest rooms of varying sizes. The hotel was originally operated by Ella Eckelmann, though the hotel had various managers and owners over the years. In the 1910s, a red brick addition was made to the back of the building, adding more rooms for guests.
The old Hotel Main building still stands in Steelville, across from the Crawford County Courthouse. The building hasnβt been home to a hotel in many years, but many different businesses have been housed inside. Today, part of the ground floor of the old hotel is now home to Steelvilleβs DMV.
