Steinhatchee is a small town located in the Florida’s Big Bend region. The place is popular for its Spanish moss and the numerous egrets that made the area their permanent home. There are numerous opportunities in Steinhatchee to

enjoy and have fun. It is a tranquil city with an excellent place to discover the good Old Florida. The city combines the ambiance of the 18th century with 21st century’s modern conveniences. The town of Steinhatchee’s has a long history starting from the first human habitation during prehistoric times, moving on to pirates during the 15th to the 18th centuries, colonizers who worked as loggers during the 18th century, sponge divers during the 1940s – 50s and today the town is popular for having a vibrant fishing industry. The city is located at the opening of Steinhatchee River, back then Deadman Bay was mapped around the early 1500s. The area has seen numerous wars including that of the Timucuan Indians, Spanish colonizers, Seminole Indians and during the Civil War. According to locals, the Steinhatchee is an Indian word meaning, “esteem hatchee” or River of Man. Since the 19th century, the town and its nearby area played an important role in the foresting industry, as the general area is rich in Cedar that is used for pencil manufacturing. At present, the city supports the fishing industry as the area is rich in numerous species of water animals including trout and mullet, blue and stone crabs, sponges and scallops and a lot more. The town is a nice family destination for those who are looking for a complete relaxation.

With the 4th of July just around the corner, I would absolutely LOVE to see everyone participate in decorating whatever they travel around in with patriotic and/or red, white and blue themed decor!
Also, if you plan on heading to Grassy, bring out those large, silly floats! Some of you guys has some pretty funny ones!

Simply Steinhatchee - Scallop Season 2023 - Fenholloway through Suwannee River Zone (including Keaton Beach and the Steinhatchee area): June 15 through Labor Day. This region includes all state waters East of Rock Island near the mouth of the Fenholloway River in Taylor County and North of Alligator Pass Daybeacon #4 near the mouth of the Suwannee River in Levy County. This area has a lowered bag limit June 15-30.

Daily Bag Limit for Fenholloway through Suwannee River Zone:

June 15-30:
Per person: 1 gallon whole bay scallops in shell or one cup shucked
Per vessel: 5 gallons whole or two pints shucked
July 1-Labor Day
Per person: 2 gallons of whole bay scallops in shell or 1 pint of bay scallop meat
Per vessel: Maximum of 10 gallons of whole bay scallops in shell, or 1/2 gallon bay scallop meat (1/2 gallon = 4 pints).

Explored outside of Steinhatchee. Only 30 to 40 minutes away, we visited Suwanee Landing and had lunch with beautiful views then went to explore Manatee Springs.

Definitely going back and kayaking.

is coming back to town! The entry is $750 per (2 angler) team + a membership fee per angler for this 2-day tournament. This event will be held rain or shine!

You can register up to and at the Mandatory Captain's meeting held Thursday night at Sea Hag. So plan to join us to see all the big redfish that are weighed and released alive!
