We're honored to share that the von Trapp family has been named Legendary Family Historic Hoteliers of the Year in the 2026 Historic Hotels of America Awards of Excellence. 🏆

What began more than 75 years ago with the family welcoming guests into their home in Stowe, Vermont, has grown into a tradition of hospitality, music, and a love of the outdoors that continues three generations later at von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort.

A piece of Vermont history. 💚

Today, we officially unveiled a new Vermont Historic Roadside Marker recognizing the history of the von Trapp family and the legacy they established here in Vermont.

Vermont’s distinctive green-and-gold roadside markers recognize people, places and events that have made significant contributions to the history of Vermont, the region and the nation.

We were honored to mark the occasion alongside members of the von Trapp family, community members, representatives from the State of Vermont and U.S. Senator Peter Welch.

A special day for our family, our property and the place we’ve called home for generations.

Cozy shirts, blankets and robes from our collab with The Vermont Flannel Company, the iconic Maria Bear from Vermont Teddy Bear and books about our family story for the Sound of Music fans. October is here, and there’s plenty happening around the property between all that leaf peeping. Here’s what’s on the calendar this month.

🎶 Bierhall Music Series (October 3, 10 & 11)
Fall afternoons, a cold l***r and live music. Catch Dimmer Triplets on October 3, Amerikana Blue on October 10 and David Karl Roberts on October 11, all from 4:30–7 PM at the von Trapp Brewing Bierhall.

🎷 Jazz Saturdays (October 3, 10 & 17)
Settle into the Sunroom as the George Walker Petit Trio turns it into a cozy jazz club for the evening, with live music from 6:15–9 PM.

🎻 Chamber Music Stowe (October 11)
Join Chamber Music Stowe for an intimate evening of music in the Mozart Room with Schubertiade II, featuring the transcendent Schubert Quintet with two cellos.

🏃 von Trapp Mountain Marathon (October 17)
Ready to earn those foliage views? Take on a challenging half or full marathon across our trail system, including a climb to the summit of Round Top with views of Mount Mansfield along the way. Hosted by Ironwood Adventure Works

Sunny days paired with cooler nights can bring out some of the brightest color, with rainfall and conditions throughout the growing season playing a part, too.

Our mountaintop is a pretty good place to watch fall unfold. 🍂🍁
