Maude is in bloom!
If you've strolled our lawn this week, you've likely been stopped in your tracks by the sight (and scent!) of Maude, our beautiful Catalpa tree, absolutely dripping in clusters of white blossoms right now. Look closely and you'll see each delicate flower is freckled with soft purple and gold markings — and if you catch a breeze, you'll notice their sweet, honeyed fragrance drifting across the yard.
Maude isn't just any tree. She's named in honor of a beloved retired Clydesdale mare who spent her golden years right here at Chanticleer, gentle soul that she was. When she passed, a guest who had grown especially fond of her gifted Chanticleer this tree in her memory — and every summer since, Maude has bloomed right on schedule, a living tribute that keeps her spirit part of our grounds.
So, if you're staying with us (or just passing through Sturgeon Bay!), take a minute under Maude's branches. Breathe it in. She's only in bloom for a short window each year, and she's putting on quite a show right now.
