We’ve been waiting to share this…
This winter, a new chapter begins.
And this view is about to evolve.
For years, we’ve called this place The Bay on Clark Lake.
Soon, it will be known as Hugo’s on The Bay.
Clark Lake has been part of our family story for over a century. Long before Door County became a destination, my great-grandparents traveled here by horse and buggy, camping along the shore when this was still farmland. It was here they fell in love, with each other, and with the lake that would shape generations of our family.
My great-grandfather Hugo eventually built a modest cottage on the land he loved. And it became the backdrop for everything I associate with childhood joy: bunk beds full of cousins, bare feet on wood floors, storms rolling in over a metal roof, music drifting through open windows, late nights, early mornings, and days that revolved entirely around the lake.
We waterskied from sunup to sundown, fished off the dock, tubed until our arms ached, and ended most evenings with bonfires at the water’s edge. Life moved by the rhythm of the lake. Unhurried, outdoors, and shared.
That spirit is what we’re preserving.
As new construction continues to go up across Door County, places like this are becoming rare. But you can’t build legacy from scratch. You can’t recreate the way time slows down at a lake cabin that’s been well-loved for generations.
This renovation isn’t about making something new. It’s about honoring something old and deeply loved. The bathrooms will be upgraded. The spaces will feel more intentional. But it will still feel like a cabin: collected, comforting, and full of soul.
The next few slides are a sneak peek at what’s taking shape as Hugo’s on The Bay comes together.
This one means everything to us.
Spring weekends are now open, with a limited number of summer dates available.
