This past week we made the announcement about how thrilled we are to welcome weekender campers back to our campground, but it seems as though Mother Nature had different plans…
Last night, the horrible storms (not officially declared a tornado yet) that moved through the Sturgis area caused significant damage throughout our campground. As many of you know, this place is more than just a business to our family; it's a place that has been loved, cared for, and built over many years- one season at a time.
Walking the property today has been emotional. There is a lot of damage, complete destruction, and the next few weeks will be spent cleaning up, rebuilding, and figuring out our next steps.
But in the middle of all of it, one thing matters most:
Everyone is safe.
There are no words to fully describe the fear and uncertainty we felt last night as the storm moved through. It was one of those moments where everything fades away, and all you care about is the people around you. We are incredibly grateful that our family, our campers, and our friends made it through safely.
Today, our hearts are heavy. It's hard to see a place that means so much to so many of us impacted this way. But we're also reminded of how fortunate we are and how strong this community can be.
For every single person who has reached out, checked in, offered a helping hand, or kept us in your thoughts- we are so grateful- beyond grateful to those that have spent their entire day doing nothing but helping to clear the roads… Your kindness, love, and compassion means more than we can put into words. Truly.
We have a lot of work ahead of us, but this campground has weathered many seasons over the years, and we'll weather this one too!
We will clean up. We will rebuild. And we look forward to the day when the laughter, campfires, bike rides, and memories once again fill every corner of this place that is truly so magical.
For now, we're simply grateful that everyone is okay and taking things one day at a time. We’ll get through this… together. And I promise- you’ll be hearing from us soon about when our gates are open, but at this time, we are asking people to please acknowledge we are closed until further notice💚
