I’m sad to announce the passing of our beloved 2005 Chevy Tahoe. She’s been with us from the very beginning. She had not been feeling well lately and refused a trip to Neel Gap. After having her treated we discovered that her compression had simply giving out. If you ever had the pleasure of being transported by her we know how you must feel right now. We have a support group coordinator standing by.

When it is 23 degrees and you are hoping the sunrise is worth the hike (it always is) and then the sunrise says hey you made the effort so let me show you something! Pro tip, cold fronts bring in cloud ceilings, cloud ceilings make epic sunrises!

Our first week of the Fall season couldn’t have started better. Started off with Pupusas, HotSpot and Spice doing three days with us from Amicalola Falls to Neel Gap. Then Nimblewill stopped in to say 👋 on his way to Harpers Ferry to support his dear friend GreyBeard who is starting his thru hike today in an attempt to break Nimblewill’s record. It was great to see him and Barry. Also had “Fixin To” spend a night on his way to finishing his thru hike, he started in February and is fixin to have to change his trail name to “Done Did”. It was nice seeing his son Ethan join him for his last couple days on trail.

Every year we take on a project here at AboveTheClouds. Some forced some not. This one didn’t give us a choice. So when the 80 year ole septic system said no mas we decided to go all out and put in a commercial system.
This new system will be big enough to operate the hostel as well as the old country store out front. With 625 feet of lines and 2500 gallons of tank space this system is permitted and approved for expansion. We are working on putting in a small laundromat/coffee shop/store. This will be a lengthy process with a goal of 2027 being optimistic possibly 2028. On one hand this seems like a long way away. On the other I have personally witnessed time fly! Kinda like a thru hike….

When you don’t want the rubber duck thermometer telling you the water you are soaking in is 39 degrees! Nutcrusher and Del not only braved the cold temps they crushed them. It has been an incredible week. So many wonderful people! To Nutcrusher, thanks a million, your spirit will linger here forever!
