🎃 A Halloween mountain weekend just opened at Sugar Top Retreat: October 30–31.

Late October brings crisp mountain air, lingering color in the lower valleys, scenic drives, hikes and cozy evenings back at the condo. Halloween weekend plans nearby include Banner Elk’s family-friendly Trunk or Treat on Saturday from 5–7 PM, plus live music at Banner Elk Winery and Banner Elk Cafe.

Fall color varies by elevation and weather, so we can’t promise peak foliage—but late October can still be beautiful, especially looking into the valleys.

Woolly Weather Watch is on! 🐛🍂 The 49th Annual Woolly Worm Festival returns to Banner Elk October 17–18.

Save this quick visitor guide:
• Saturday: 9 AM–5 PM
• Sunday: 9 AM–4 PM
• Historic Banner Elk Elementary School, 185 Azalea Circle
• Adults $10; ages 6–12 $5; age 5 and under free
• Woolly worm races begin around 10 AM; registration happens at the festival and is limited, so arrive early
• Pets are not permitted—except woolly worms

Fall color is waking up across the High Country 🍁

Grandfather Mountain’s October 7 update shows color spreading across the mountain while plenty of green remains—so the transition is underway, but it isn’t peak everywhere yet.

Save this flexible fall-day idea: begin around Sugar Mountain, take the scenic route toward Grandfather Mountain, and let the overlooks set the pace. The Parkway corridor near Grandfather has reopened following major repairs, but always check the official road status before leaving.
