HIGH STREET TRAFFIC HEADS-UP

A portion of the right-hand lane on High Street between Pizza Hut and the first entrance to the Hannaford plaza, near the new Camden National Bank location, is closed due to a sinkhole.

High Street remains open, but please use caution and watch for the lane closure. City Highway crews will be working to repair the area tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

It is a muggy Tuesday across the Central Highlands to Downeast Maine with high temperatures peaking in the mid-to-upper 70s. North of this semi-stationary front less humid. While we are seeing intermittent, isolated to scattered showers today, these brief downpours will unfortunately not provide the widespread, "drought-busting" relief the region needs. As we head into tonight, expect patchy to areas of dense fog to develop in spots.

Looking ahead, overall rainfall chances remain limited through tomorrow, with our next best opportunity for organized rain arriving Sunday into Monday. However, significant rainfall totals are not expected over the next 7 to 10 days. We are continuously monitoring the abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions across the state, and your local observations are incredibly helpful. Learn how it's done! We've got one more session with Wendell Gilley Museum carver Jim Vekasi tomorrow, 8/18, 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm in front of Rockefeller Hall. Visit with Jim and pick up a carving knife yourself – there is no charge to give it a try. Then visit the display of bird carvings inside the Welcome Center.
