The Sumpter Valley Railroad is celebrating its 50th Anniversary, and this is shaping up to be one of the biggest events of the summer!

From June 12–21, history will come alive with steam train excursions, live music, vendors, special events, and plenty of opportunities to experience the rich railroad and gold mining heritage that helped build our region.

Whether you're a train enthusiast, history buff, music lover, or just looking for a fun family getaway, this celebration has something for everyone. Imagine spending the day riding behind a historic steam locomotive, exploring the area’s fascinating past, enjoying live music, browsing vendors, and then returning to your campsite under the beautiful Eastern Oregon sky.

The live music lineup at McEwen Depot looks fantastic, and we're excited to see so many people coming together to celebrate 50 years of railroad preservation and community spirit.

We’re firing up the grill and hosting a Memorial Day Cookout here for our guests and friends at Sumpter RV Park!!

Spend the weekend riding ATV trails, exploring old gold mining history, relaxing around the campfire, checking out the flea market happening in town, and enjoying live music and weekend fun around Sumpter! OPENING DAY IS ALMOST HERE!

After a quiet offseason… we’ve been anything but quiet behind the scenes.

We’re officially kicking off the 2026 season on Friday, May 1st, and we could not be more excited to welcome everyone back!

We’ve been hard at work getting the park ready for an amazing summer — including:
- Introducing our brand new glamping tent experience
- Bathroom updates to make your stay more comfortable
- Fresh gravel and road improvements
- Lots of cleanup and extra care to make the park as beautiful as possible

There’s something extra special about Christmas in a small town — twinkling lights, familiar faces, and that warm, cozy feeling that makes you want to slow down and soak it all in. This season, our hearts are full of gratitude for the guests, neighbors, and friends who make Sumpter such a wonderful place to call home (and visit).

We’re so thankful to be part of a town where traditions are cherished, community comes first, and a little holiday magic always seems to find its way around every corner. From snowy mornings to festive nights, it’s the simple moments that mean the most.

Don’t miss out — Sumpter is feeling extra festive this weekend!

The Christmas Celebration is happening December 12–14, and it’s the perfect excuse to come into town, soak up some holiday cheer, and enjoy everything that makes Sumpter so special this time of year. There’ll be crafts, train rides, twinkly lights, Santa sightings, and that cozy small-town Christmas feeling we all love.

🎄Saturday night’s Starlight Parade and Tree Lighting starts at 5pm, and you’ll definitely want to grab a spot along the route.

✨ Keep an eye out for Sumpter RV Park in the parade — we’ll be rolling by with plenty of lights, cheer, and a little campground magic.

🎄✨ Even though Sumpter RV Park is tucked in for its long winter nap, the town of Sumpter is wide awake with Christmas magic! ✨🎄

If you’re dreaming of twinkly lights, cheery train whistles, cozy craft bazaars, and a visit from the one-and-only Santa himself… you’re in luck! Our little mountain town is hosting a full weekend of festive fun December 12th–14th.

Hop on a holiday train ride, wander the museum’s craft bazaar, and bundle up for the Starlight Parade and tree lighting. It’s the kind of small-town Christmas sparkle you see in movies. ❄️

While the campground sleeps under a blanket of snow, we’re still cheering on all the holiday joy happening just down the road.
