Well, the dog park built over last summer finally has its rightful name. Yes, it is Bean’s Dog Park. And just in case you would have doubts that such perfect dog could actually exist I hearby present pictoral evidence of Bean himself. Isn’t he perfect and worthy of a park named after him?

Well, winter and snow is upon us. More snow then last year at this time.
I seem to spend more and more time working on my bike trail and for that reason I made a separate page for it called „Patatay Trail Tales” where I constribute daily writing about riding and building it. This way we can keep the park and the trail separate.

For the last month I have been working on adding quality trail to Patatay. Starting at the bottom of the powerline and using mainly Rex’io I was able to add close to a half mile. Several ravines were crossed with culverts including the one at the very bottom of the ravine. To reach it with reasonable slopes an embankment had to be created for which a loaner mini skid came in handy. Now I am climbing out of the ravine and working on a switchback to reverse direction and use up the maximum of my land before making my way to the dead end of the active part of Patatay. Once connected over the winter I am hoping to have close to two miles completed East of the powerline.

More trail building. Now that the heat of summer is slowly going away the trail building season is again here. The goal is to create as much milage as feasible on the East side of the powerline. I started at the bottom just before the ravine and want to use up whatever forest is left south of the ravine before crossing it in a few weeks when all the leaves are gone. Then the plan is to build up the trail north of the ravine until finally hooking up to the hand built section after the devil’s switchbacks. Big, ambitious plans for one man and machine but once completed The goal is to have at least 40 minutes on the bike going to the end and back as compared to the 20 minutes now.

It is with profound sadness and sorrow that we lowered our flag today for the victims of Minneapolis school shootings. Our prayers are with the families of the victims.

The ducks are moving up in the Ozark Adventures world. They just got a new, spacious villa with double doors and a window. It hinges for easy access and for late fall removal to their winter quarters away from the pond. Now they have a floating house, a house by the lake and a brand new floating dock to travel from one to the other. Their favorite place, however is still the puddle of muddy water in the gravel driveway by the retaining wall 🙂

Today we had a visit from Sam the snake. He hung around for a bit but since no mice or frogs were about he slithered off in search of his prey.
Countless times campers have told us about seeing black snakes about in the woods. We just call them Ozark Mousers, an economy, all natural, organic, fair trade etc. version of a barn cat

The Devil’s switchbacks are officially named just that. After riding them repeatedly and falling off for the first week I certainly learned to respect the devils. Finally with the right dose of balance, smoothness and power I can make it down clean and up as well. I assume most riders attempting them will have the same journey of discovery until full mastery is achieved. One thing is for sure, they can never be taken for granted and will always keep you on your toes when riding. Also, you will question your choice of riding a 29’er or bless your choice to stay with smaller wheel size on these. Hopefully in the next week or so I can cross the bottom of the ravine and start climbing the trail on the opposite bank. Stay tuned 🙂

The turtles are out! Today I met four turtles on my morning ride on the Patatay. Two of them on the same turn!
