The pickleball courts at Fort Rock Park inspired me, and I bought 4 pickleball rackets at for the cabin. You can reserve a court at the with one of the SHARC passes. My mother, tennis champion that she was, would probably have been disappointed to see how many tennis courts in Sunriver that have been converted, but it seems like an easier game to me!

I bought this long print of the Oregon Cascade Mountains from over a year ago, but then the shutdown happened, so I put off getting it framed, and then it just got pushed down my priority list. But this Spring, I made it to who did a beautiful job of framing it, and it's finally installed in the Green room upstairs in our cabin, under a Jack Campbell watercolor of Mount Bachelor.

New bedside lamps in the Green room upstairs. The old lamps probably came with the house when my dad bought it in the late 80s, and they were probably ancient at that point. With new shades, they could live a happy new life, but they were too tall for the nightstands and didn't match, so we're going to donate them. These new lamps from are shorter, better balanced, and fit far better in the space. Bit by bit, we are continually improving the cabin. I really love the space that it is turning into, and I hope all of our guests do too!

Our Summer is almost entirely booked with a handful of nights left in July and about a week and a half left in August.

I went to to Sunriver several weeks ago with my daughters Gigi and Amelia for a chill girls' weekend. While there, we met up with a professional photographer who took some great new photos that are up on our Airbnb site now. Check them out!

Our Summer nights are filling up! We have about a week left in June, a handful of days in July and about half of August still available. A fair amount of bookings have come in just the past week or two, so make your reservation soon!

I'm kinda in love with this knife block right now. It was an impulse online purchase, but it turned out to be really awesome.

It may surprise you to learn that some guests don't seem to bother to clean off the knife they use before putting it back in the block. It's not their kitchen, right? So not only does this leave a gross knife that needs to be cleaned before the next group, but it also leaves gunk in the bottom of the knife block, which can be really hard to get out. So I spotted this knife block online and pretty much needed to buy it right away. It has strong magnets to keep the knives in place, and its design makes it super easy to clean. And it looks pretty cool too.

We currently have someone staying for the next few weeks, but I'm planning on going up to Sunriver right after they leave. I'm really looking forward to switching out the old block with this new one. It's the little things that make me happy.

We've been making a ton of improvements to the Deschutes Sunriver house over the past year. The top priority items have always been fixing things that are broken or worn out, like our kitchen faucet or our new sliding glass door. Other improvements have had a function such as adding our deck furniture or the new end tables in the living room. But my current project has been solely because it will make me happy. I'm replacing our plates and bowls with this vintage Corelle pattern from the 70s called Butterfly Gold. It's the pattern my family had when I was growing up, and it's going to look great in the cabin's 70s era kitchen.

There's really nothing wrong with our current stuff, so this is a bit frivolous for me to do, but I guess one of the benefits of renting out our vacation home is that I can use those funds to be a little frivolous from time to time.

So the next time we make it up to Sunriver, we will be bringing Butterfly Gold with us!

To everyone currently in Central Oregon. Stay safe! I just checked the air quality forecast, and it's looking pretty bad in the next few days, even for those out of the actual fire hazard.

When we were there Monday, the conditions went from slightly hazy to smokey and ashy and windy so freaking quickly. I advised our next guests to cancel if the air quality forecast bears out.

Our sliding glass door was original to the house, built in 1978. At this point, that meant it was really hard to open due to the wood warping after many winters of outdoor exposure to snow and ice. Unlike newer doors that can be adjusted, this one couldn't. Also, the screen had a few small holes that some guests had covered with scotch tape, lending to the whole "charming" decor. We bit the bullet and ordered a new Marvin aluminum clad door in July, and it finally arrived this week. Our contractors are just finishing it up. In the meantime, here's a picture of the rather large hole that was in our living room yesterday morning. Our next guest, due Tuesday, will get to enjoy a door that is easy to open without any scotch tape on the screen. Because we are classy that way 😂
