History Talk -
According to an interview by Ed Gore in a July 13, 2014 Star News Article -

"In 1958, Mannon Gore started selling lots at cut rates, even for those times – $1,000 for waterfront and $250 to $400 for interior sites – to get enough homes built to persuade the state to take over the roads and bridge."

With these bargain prices, construction commenced in earnest. Once there were 50 homes on the island the NC DOT would take over operation of the Sunset Beach Bridge.

Yay! We got to witness an excavation one night!

Our 2021 season has finally come to an end. We are proud to say we ended up with 28 nests and over 2,601 hatchlings made it to this ocean safely! Thanks so much to all of the dedicated walkers who hit the beach before sunrise since May 1st plus walked the beach at sunset to protect our hatchlings. Your dedication is so appreciated especially from Carmel and her fearless team leaders! See you May 1, 2022...

Labor Day has passed, which means pets are now allowed on the strand at any time. All pets must still be on leashes no longer than 10 feet while on public or communal property. Always remember to pick up after your pet. Enjoy!

I don't know what it is but I'm always fascinated watching the rising sun, especially when I can see it through a long lens - details that you can't see otherwise. This morning at Sunset Beach felt great with the cooler weather! It felt even better during my post sunrise jog! Hope you all have a fantastic Labor Day weekend!

Also, check out my website at www.stanlytosunset.com to see more of my work and order prints!

Oh and thank you again for all of your wonderful feedback on my potential contest entries! I was truly overwhelmed! I'll let you know later which ones I decided to go with. 🙂

There's just something so amazing about watching the moon rise out over the ocean! Captured last night at Sunset Beach. I love how the color changes from red to orange and then eventually yellow as it slowly rises from the distant horizon! This was just after it fully broke the horizon so it was still more of a reddish color.

Last but not least, yesterday early evening a momma turtle came on shore early to show off a little for our visitors. This was once in a lifetime sighting! Please remember to never disturb a sea turtle when coming on shore, laying her eggs or leaving... Watch from a distance but do not touch or interfere!!!
