Come stay in our luxurious, rustic North Texas Hill Country home! The house is over 100 years old, but newly decorated and renovated in a charming modern farmhouse style to accommodate guests. Central heat and air and wi-fi provide all the modern conveniences combined with the ambience and comfort of an old country home experience.
Furnished with a gourmet kitchen that has an abundance of everything you'd ever need for cooking, Sunbird Farmhouse is equipped with all the modern amenities; pans, cooking gadgets, blenders, coffee pots, microwave, and more! There’s a brand new propane stove, refrigerator with ice maker on the door, deep double farmhouse sink (we buy local produce at the market for canning and we LOVE to pick and preserve the tart wild plums from the large hedge just behind the house in early June.) You are welcomed to use our heirloom linens and vintage collection of kitchenware and china dishes kept in the two hutches.
There's an antique Buck Range wood stove, original to the house and still there "just for looks" in the kitchen, but you'll want to cook on the brand new propane gas stove anyway! There is a cast iron wood-burning glass-front fireplace in the living room that we lounge beside in cold weather while we read or play games with the family or check emails.
Everything you want from a storybook farm - an old windmill, a wishing well, and a little well house! And don't worry, your furry friend won't be in the dog house... dogs are welcome with an additional pet deposit!
Two nine-light front doors open onto the covered porch with a swing and a rocking chair that face a honeysuckle lined fence. Or enjoy the back deck, just off the kitchen out the back door, where you can have cookouts while overlooking our 22 acres of secluded farmland. It’s been in the family for 4 generations (5 generations counting the grandkids!)
The back deck is the perfect place for grilling and BBQing, enjoying a glass of wine or morning coffee while watching the cows in the pasture and listening to all the birds and crickets chirping! You'll likely spot a deer or an armadillo if you hang out long enough. At night you can switch off the lights on the old windmill for some rare dark skies stargazing! (Get the iPhone app Star Walk... amazingly helpful and fun!)
The living room's tall windows look out over the green pastures and oak trees and acres of Texas farm and woodlands. The sunshine filtering in makes the home feel serene and sweet and fills the house with plenty of natural light.
Wake up in the master bedroom to the singing of the birds in the surrounding Oak and Juniper trees. The room has vintage furniture + an easel and a writing desk (where Kimmie writes her songs and works on her latest book in quiet solitude.) All of the beds have great new mattresses, well appointed luxurious bedding, hi-count cotton sheets, down comforters and pillows! (Hyper-allergenic pillows also provided.)
The second bedroom has a TV + Apple TV! Kimmie's quirky primitive collection of color by number dogs and horses grace the walls of this room and also shelves laden with her unique collection of art and decorating books that she shares for her guests to enjoy during their stay. There is an antique armoire where guests can hang their clothes and store away their belongings and shopping.
The bathroom has all new plumbing + a vintage corner shower stall. Kimmie's original painting of the windmill hangs on the wall above the toilet and if you peek out the window you’ll see the real thing! Our bathroom has fluffy towels, hi-end bath amenities, fresh toiletries and nice linens and the windows look out at the private countryside scenery. Plus, Kimmie's own amusing caricature painting of the five cows hangs over the washer and dryer!
In spring and summer you can pick fresh wildflowers from the fields and heirloom pink roses (also original to the old house) from the yard! Enjoy our collection of McCoy vases for the flowers you find down by the spring pond or the pastureland bordering the wildlife refuge of the surrounding woods.
It's a lovely place for an extended weekend getaway, a week or so with the family, a holiday trip, a Texas vacation, or an artist's/writer's retreat!
