Scanlon Family & History

Scanlon Family & History It all began with Olaf A. (Skaanland) Scanlon and Mary (Martinson) Scanlon in the late 1800's They had 13 children with the older ones being born in Norway.

Olaf (Ole) Skaanland and his wife Mary Martinson were born and married in Norway. In 1887 the family
left Norway and settled at Gleenwood City, WI and Menominie where they ran a hotel and livery stable. In 1897 they moved to the Township of Casey where their son Martin was born in the barn during that first summer. They were building their first house at the time. Ole was granted US citizenship on

August 25, 1903 in Washburn County Circuit Court. He applied for citizenship after living in the US for 5 years. His whole family was accepted on the same day his citizenship was granted. No other papers were issued. On that day Olaf renounced his allegiance to Oscar 2nd, King of Sweden and Norway, and officially became a US citizen.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Scanlon relatives! I am thankful for each of you. ❤️
As you sit around the table with your family today, please remember to add in stories about loved ones that are no longer with us. Teach children the importance of honoring family. Honoring our past, our present and our families futures are lessons they will hopefully carry with them forever.
Blessings to all ❤️

Wanted to let everyone know we lost a relative. Steve Nyberg (55) passed away of suspected heart issues. This is a huge loss and we all send love to his children, brother, Tim and extended family. 😢

Steve lived in Biwabik, Minnesota

I know I posted this before but this picture just amazes me. Look at the number of Ole A. Scanlon's children. I'm sure there are more relatives out there but hard to find. Much easier when they find us like Walter Scanlon did :)

Cousin Jana and I were just talking about Grandma Marion Scanlon cookies and I mentioned that I have her old cookie jar, sugar and creamer containers as well as teapot and salt and pepper shakers. Anyone remember these? Cookie jar sat in the corner on the counter along with the teapot and the cream and sugar and salt and pepper containers stayed on the table. Grandma's cookie jar was usually full of course until us grandkids got there. LOL
