I recently posted to a comment in the "People who went to Catskill bungalow colonies' here on Facebook and thought I'd share the memory here.
"I'm a bit younger, my aunt / uncle had a colony right up the road from the Stevensville. I have wonderful memories of my uncle bringing me along on golf outings with guests and letting me drive the cart. They would attend many shows there also. I enjoyed fishing in the lake each summer with a pole I got from the local Jamesway store. I'd send letters home after taking what seemed like a day trip for me to the post office at the end of Shore Rd (and maybe something interesting at the store next to it).... Good memories."
"As I got older I was able to help out more with chores around the property. Mowing was a big one as it seemed to never end, I would break the property up into pieces to do each day. I'd paint bungalows, clean the pool, tidy various areas and of course play some video games to the sound of the Beetles or Beach Boys on the juke box. I got to know the guests and really enjoyed the time I spent there. It taught me a lot even though then I didn't realize it. Managing responsibilities I didn't have at home. My uncle would bring me on jobs he did in the area also for the local camps, roofing, carpentry, etc. Quite a life lesson."
