Sweetwater is joining over 2,000 cities across the globe on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with MAKE MUSIC DAY, a completely FREE celebration of music! The Sweetwater venues will be as follows: Oak Hall from 3:00 - 5:00PM, with Chaseton Henager, Pete Porter, and Sage Holloway performing. Mulberry Manor will host Jacob McBeath and Hunter Crawford from 5:00 to 7:00PM. Then Argos will wrap up the day with another thrilling performance by Fever Pitch from 7:00 - 9:00PM. Anyone can play (call or text 325-338-2673 to schedule a time and place to share your music), and everyone is invited to just come and listen! Let's kick off the first day of summer with Make Music Sweetwater!

This is a quick and interesting read about the development of Sweetwater and the vital role the railroad played in transforming a small camp on Sweetwater Creek into a thriving West Texas community.

One important piece of the story not mentioned is the role of Thomas Trammell, often referred to as the “Father of Sweetwater.” Trammell was instrumental in bringing the railroad to Sweetwater, a development that helped shape the future of our town and the surrounding region.

As a fun historical connection, Thomas Trammell is also the gentleman who built the home that is known today as Mulberry Manor Bed & Breakfast. It’s a reminder that the history of Sweetwater is still very much alive in the places we cherish today.

Before Sweetwater, Texas was a town, it was a camp. A buffalo hunter's camp, to be exact. 🦬

In the late 1870s, hunters working the southern plains set up a temporary water stop along a creek in what is now Nolan County. They called it Sweetwater Creek because the water was clean and drinkable in a land where that was never guaranteed. It was nothing. A few tents, a fire, a reason to stop.

Then the Texas and Pacific Railway came through in 1881, and everything changed overnight. Within months, a full town had erupted from the dirt: saloons, merchants, cattle pens, hotels, and a courthouse. Sweetwater became one of the most important railroad hubs in all of West Texas, a place where cattle empires, cotton fortunes, and frontier ambition all converged on a single set of iron tracks. The railroad didn't just pass through Sweetwater. It created it. And when you drive through today and see those old brick storefronts still standing on the square, you're looking at what one set of tracks can build from nothing. Due to severe cold weather forecast for the next few days, The SHOP will open its doors as a Warming Shelter for our community.

✅ Opening Tonight: Wednesday, January 21, 2026 — 8:00 PM
✅ Closing: Thursday, January 22, 2026 — 10:00 AM

Then…

✅ Reopening: Friday morning, January 23, 2026 - 10:00 am
✅ Staying Open 24 hours a day through Tuesday, January 27, 2026

📌 On Monday (January 26), we will decide if we will remain open longer depending on how the weather plays out.

This shelter is for anyone who doesn’t have a place to stay or who doesn’t have adequate heat in their home. If you or someone you know needs a warm place to rest, please come to 509 LOCUST.

Recent Google review on the Manor by some delightful guests…..

My family and I went on a road trip across Texas to hike in Big Bend and stopped halfway down and then again halfway back. We wanted to stay in unique places and I feel so incredibly lucky that I saw this place!! The entire experience started off so nicely when Kim (one of the owners) called us the day we were arriving to ask about our arrival time so her or her husband Mark could be there to welcome us, and she also offered to make us an early continental breakfast since we were leaving before 8am the next day. It was so kind, but we declined because we were good to grab food on the road so we could get home.
But that level of customer service and genuine kindness was a perfect example of our stay! Mark met us and gave us a tour of the BEAUTIFUL house, told us about the history, showed us historical photos they got from the granddaughter of the man who first built it. He offered us wine and coffee and the best banana bread I’ve ever had (seriously I need to email them for the recipe), and he even let us meet his puppy which made my daughter so happy!
The house itself is incredible. Mark and Kim did an impossible task renovating it from abandoned nightmare to a breathtaking home that feels luxurious and so special. It really would be perfect for a small family celebration or wedding! Our favorite parts were the atrium in the center of the house that still had the 100+ year old birds of paradise plants that the original owner brought there from Guatemala, and the fact that their beautiful Christmas decorations were still up. We were extra lucky to be the only people staying there, so we really had the run of the house and got to hang out in their gorgeous living room to enjoy the Christmas decor and watch a movie together on our tablet.
Everything was clean, the beds were so comfy, the amenities were awesome, the owners are SO SWEET, and Mulberry Manor is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed. We’ve been home a few days and my daughter is still talking about it! If you get the chance, I cannot recommend it enough!
