Hi Everyone,

I haven’t posted since January, so I guess I need to catch you up.

We had a new grandson, Hogan on January 30. OMG! He looks just like Frank, not just facially but his arms and legs too. Sooo adorable!

In February, we went to Daytona for the NASCAR race. Always a good time.

The end of February, I went on an embroidery cruise with 5 of my friends from Maryland that was sponsored by Babylock and Sweet Pea embroidery. We had such a great time, sewing on the Solaris machines, eating great food, and exploring several islands. We were very lucky to get that cruise in because right after we got home, everything closed down. After this cruise, Sweet Pea is my favorite designers.

I lost my dear friends, Carol and Diane to cancer this year. They both loved and died with great dignity. I miss them very much.

I also know two people who died from the coronavirus In Maryland.

We are staying home in quarantine. I think we are both ok with that. I love to be home and quilting or reading. The big man is building me a sewing studio, so he’s been super busy. I never thought I would have this beautiful room.

I bought a new machine, a Babylock Solaris. It is a super machine, but I don’t know how to work most of it.

I’ve been embroidering a Halloween quilt. It’s been a lot of fun. Still have some blocks to make before I can put it together.

I’ve also used my Go Big and cut a whole bunch of 5” squares and 2 1/2” strips. I think I’ve made 4 scrap quilts, and I am soooo done with scraps. Of course, I still have tons of more scraps. They just keep growing.

Hope to hear from some of you. Miss you all very much.

Hi Everyone,

It’s been some months since I’ve posted anything. We’ve been doing a lot of traveling. Now that we aren’t working, we were about to see the grands in MD for Halloween. Jennifer and Justin do a great job of coming up with unique costumes. While we were there, I was able to attend Amanda’s baby shower. Always exciting to have a new baby.

In early November, we left MD and went to Key West for the offshore boat races. That was very exciting. Those boats look like they’re flying through the air. We were there when the 2 boats hit and went airborne. They have helicopters flying around with divers who jump out and get the drivers out of the overturned boats. Very scary.

We spent a lot of time riding around Key West in bikes. My balance isn’t what it used to be. The first day, I did well until we got back to the hotel. I stopped the bike and before I could get my foot down, over we went. The next day, I did the same thing and ended up in the bushes. On the third day, frank just said try not to crash and burn.

Of course, one highlight was the quilt shop that was only 5 blocks from our hotel. I didn’t need anything, but a few things just jumped into my arms.

No sooner home from there, when we were back in MD for our Thanksgiving dinner. That was great. We had 4 of the 5 girls there, and lots of grands.

Before we knew it, we were back in MD for Christmas. We were limited to one gift per child because they have so much. Very hard because I love toys, and all the boys always get a Hess truck.

Back home, we were in a holding pattern, waiting for our new baby to be born. Finally, we went to Md for Amanda to be induced, and our 8th grandson was born on January 30. His name is Hogan, and he is a hulk. He looks exactly like Frank, including the size and shape of his arms.

Enough said for today. I’ll post again tomorrow. I have been doing some quilting.

Here’s the chevron pattern. Done in a day!

Hi Everyone,

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve posted. It’s been a busy, emotional summer. We started July with moving out of the retreat house. That was a really hard, emotional time for us. Thanks to our friends, we got through it.

Our friends from MD visited for a few days. So good to see them. Diana and I made some valances for her bedrooms. Just waiting to hear that she’s taken up quilting. She is quite artistic and creative.

Our daughter, Amanda and her family came to visit, including their 2 dogs. Needless to say, our cats were not happy about that, but no major battles.

In between everything, I spent some quality time with the Conway kids at the pool, Alligator Adventure, and sewing.

We also got to spend some time at our beautiful North Carolina beach.

We’ve also been in MD to visit the other little kiddles. Can’t believe I got a pic of all the grandchildren except the Ohio 2. Amanda’s going to have a baby in January, so that will make 10 grands.

With all that, I’ve still made time for quilting. I’ve long armed at least 3 quilts that still need binding. I have a few more to long arm. Once they are done, I’ll post pictures.

My friends came to the house one day to sew. I started a quilt by cutting it, and I completely finished the top before they left. So if you need a fast quilt, I’m posting a copy of the pattern. It’s basically a chevron quilt, but it has big pieces.

Last November, I started a subscription with The Fat Quarter Shop. I get a blue box once a month filled with all kinds of treasures. I’ve gotten rotary cutters, snips, and an iron pad among other things. The box always has a pattern with fabric to make it, so I’ve been also working on the blue box projects. They are small like wall hangings or tote bags. Great to take to a guild meeting or quilting bee. The cost of each box is $30. It’s like getting a Christmas gift every month.

Two years ago, my New Year’s resolution was to finish all my kits. That includes kits I’ve bought and kits I’ve made up myself. Well, I’m here to tell you all my kits are done! All I have left is a kit that I bought to make for my mother. Unfortunately, she passed away before I got to make it. I’m still looking at it, but still not ready to make it. I also have a Christmas quilt kit that I bought recently. Not in a hurry to do that either.

Please send me a message. I miss hearing from my quilting friends.

Hi Everyone,

After the man finished at his friends, we visited Jennifer to see her new pool. Absolutely beautiful , sinfully expensive.

The kids seem to love it. They are starting to swim like little fish.

When we got home, I got to babysit the SC crew. Again, we went to the pool and have more little fishies.

In the meantime, I’ve been doing a lot of sewing. Now, I have to stop because I have 5 quilt tops that need to be quilted. I have 3 sandwiches with 2 to go. Couldn’t sandwich the last 2 because I ran out of pins.

My friends who have long arms just put the quilt on the long arm and go to town without sandwiching and pinning. I just really like making sure everything stays in place. I can pull the pins out as I go.

Hi Everyone,

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Life has been crazy. We only had a few days to move out of the retreat. Thank goodness for dear friends like Cathy and Harry. We’d still be moving if they hadn’t helped. Our other friend Rich came and jumped right in too. Score I knew it, the beds were apart. The linens were bagged up. The kitchen was packed. The studio tables were broken down, and the fabric was in my car.

Needless to say, my house was a mess with another house worth of furniture and fabric. My daughter, Kimberly came to the rescue and helped me unpack and get stuff put away or at least organized.

We made a trip to MD to help a friend who had a tree fall in his house. Then went to a party at our daughter, Amanda’s house.

Back in time to settle on the retreat property. After that, my friends Sharon, Ann and Richard came to visit for a day or so. They left and friends, Bud and Diana came for a few days. We had a great time with them. Diana made valances for her windows while I did some quilting.

A few of us sewed at my house this past Tuesday. That’s always a fun time.

Yesterday, I shampooed the carpets. They look so much better, but won’t stay that way for long with the cats and the man.

Today was a trip to Sam’s Club in Myrtle Beach to pick up some water and soda. They had these packs of 5 document holders for $18, perfect for project boxes.

As always, there a story when you travel with the man. When we went to MD, we took the skid loader to take down tress and fencing. The last time we took it to MD, we had 2 flat tires on the trailer on the way back to NC. So we bought 4 new tires.

This trip, we were 2 hours from home when a tire shredded on the trailer. Luckily, we had 2 spares in the truck. Then on the way home, we lost another tire. No idea why except the skid loader may have sat too far forward in the trailer.

I hope to be able to post more often. Still lots to tell, it this is already a long post.

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on our page. I’m sure many of you have heard the news, but for those who have not, we have decided to close our Carolina Charm Quilt and Craft Retreat.

After 4 years of working hard to make a success of the business, we still have not reached our occupancy goals. This was a heartbreaking decision. We both love that beautiful house and all the friends we’ve made.

As you can image, we’ve been very busy moving, and I’ve been so upset, I can barely do anything.

The good news is that Frank is working to find a hotel where he can do retreats every few months for 20-30 people. His goal is the find a facility that has a good size meeting room for sewing that also serves a complimentary breakfast. He plans to provide a box lunch for two days and also his delicious dinners.

I plan to continue posting on the Carolina Charm page. I’ll be posting about our family. I’ll also be posting about my quilting and also some tips that I’ve learned, so don’t desert us.

I have some Quilting Acronyms, some you know but maybe some new ones.

First, we all know that FART is Fabric Acquisition Road Trip.

To keep things going, let me know if you’ve done a FART lately, where you went and the good shops to hit. Now that I’m not working, I’m ready to do a FART!

Hi Everyone,

We just had a new group leave on Sunday. They were a great group, lots of fun. They also made some fabulous quilts.

I had to say goodbye on Saturday because Kimberly and I traveled to Orangeburg, SC for a baby shower. My best friend, Cheryl’s daughter-in-law is having a baby girl in August. Her other daughter is 15 years old, so this little girl is a true gift from God.

Today was our guild meeting. Lots of great activities coming up in the next few months.

Hi Everyone,

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted. We’ve been busy with a group last week and now one this week.

Last week’s group has been here a few times. It was good to see them. They are fast quilters and very accomplished. So good to see them again.

Last Tuesday was our Quilting Bee Day. We had a record number of people, 14. It was utter chaos, soooo much fun. Lots of conversations and lots of quilting. I always look forward to Quilting Bee Day, to be with friends. Who cares how much quilting gets done, just a great girlfriends day. I am sooo fortunate and grateful for the close friends I’ve made here in North Carolina.
