We are probably the worst drone operators ever! Going through some 2025 footage and I found this clip that had a lot of potential but also makes you seasick at the same time!
A few highlights were: I pushed record, I was shooting in 4K, and I didn't lose the drone in the lake this time... but the jerky movements are a bit cringe. What do you think? I think it's a good thing I don't get paid to fly that thing. We are way better at wilderness lodge accommodations and guided outdoor adventures so check us out at Cariboulodgealaska.com 😃

~First lake reflections of the year~
This evening the open pools of water reflecting clouds and mountains gave hope that we will have kayaks, canoes and floatplanes on the lake soon.

DO YOU WANT TO HEAR A NOT-SO-FUNNY STORY that has a decent ending?
A few months ago one of our snowmobiles throttle cable stuck and the only thing that brought Joe and the machine to a stop was the wall of our cabin.
The silver lining is that the cedar siding was 25+ years old and needed to be replaced anyway. So this summer our guests will notice that cabin 1 looks nicer than the other 2 cabins. Now we know what project we have in store for 2027...

This might not look like much, but up here we have very monochromatic scenery for about 8 months of the year. Some of the only contrast to snow being the dormant deciduous tree trunks and the jagged edges of some mountains where the snow can never stick. But this little GREEN alpine clubmoss is the first variation we see in late May and its a reminder that our short summer is finally just around the corner.

Our windchill thermometer was at 28°F this morning. One of the coldest Mays in a long time.
If you are visiting us in June just prepare to pack some warm clothing and ride in a helicopter. The lake ice will prevent floatplane arrivals until late June.

The male willow ptarmigan makes a really funny noise to attract a mate. And the most ridiculous part is that it works. This pair has been courting for a few weeks back by our solar panels.
The willow ptarmigan is Alaskas state bird and their plumage changes from perfectly white in the winter to tundra camouflage in the summer. Now, in May, their color is in the transition phase so they can still hide by the edge of the melting snow.

The snow is too soft to ride on anymore, so it's time to park the machines.Another small step toward summer!
