After 12 seasons, I have begun the next steps in life - dowmsizing and moving closer to family. I will miss seeing many of our guests each winter and others every two to three years. If Florida living is in your plans, this has been a fabulous way to live and stay active.

Most visitors to Florida have no idea the central part of the state is largely comprised of cattle ranchers. Organized ranching began with the founding of St. Augustine in 1565, when cattle from Spain and Cuba formed the basis of herds that fed the garrison and surrounding communities. In addition to herds owned by the Spanish and Indians, wild cattle flourished in the range lands and prairies.
Deseret Ranches is what long time Floridians call the Mormon Ranch. At about 295,000 acres, it is one of the largest cow-calf cattle ranches in the United States. It is 10 times larger than Walt Disney World.

I so appreciate Central Florida for its natural underground aquifer, about 800 billion gallons of water flow through limestone to bubble up to form more than 700 of the natural springs in the Sunshine State every single day. That’s the largest collection anywhere on earth and almost all N of I-40. This is Silver Springs State Park just 86 miles from Erehwon Retreat.

The water’s temperature never goes above a crisp, refreshing 72 degrees, and through that crystal clear water, you can see entire ecosystems thriving: aquatic plants, gorgeous rock formations, and wildlife like manatees and turtles.

The challenge we have to all springs is the sweet heart deal the State has with Bottled Water. Companies like Nestle's/ Blue Triton pays a license fee of under $200 a year and no fees based on the # of gallons drawn. Then Fl has to pay for the liter associated with plastic bottles.

March is the time of year when Floridians and Visitors alike flock to our beaches. We're in a La Nina patters which means Tampa Bay is warmer and drier than usual with temperatures in the mid-80's and little to no rain most days. So we should have perfect weather thru May.
La Nina is peaking at just the right time. This pattern will slowly phase into a neutral pattern by summer, which usually makes condition less conducive for hurricanes in the Atlantic.
