What a comfy place to get away and relax. Great place to base out of and explore the Texas Hill Country. The views from High Tower were amazing. Well worth the climb! So neat to see all the animals. Multiple bison and the adorable calf, the elk, oryx and boar. The fireflies and stars from the fire pit were the perfect way to end the day.

Thank you

Good MorningHope your Saturday is as beautiful as ours.

First, this Tree House is exactly as advertised. The pictures and descriptions are 100% accurate. We chose the place because of the proximity to Lost Maples State Park and because we read that the location had some exotic animals. We also wanted a decent kitchen so that we could eat at home after a long day of hiking. The kitchen is well stocked with silverware, plates, a microwave, toaster, coffee pot and other essentials. The beauty of the place during the Spring cannot be exaggerated. Nature does an incredible job of dressing this place up! As for the bison (7) and the longhorn (2), they came right to our front porch and grazed in close proximity. This is an experience that I will never forget ... in part because I got some great photos. We also saw elk, wild turkeys, a vermillion flycatcher, and two very friendly barn cats. The hike on the property to the top of the Bison Trail was also quite memorable.

Come visit and take in not only the blue blue skies but the beauty of spring time in the Hill Country

Bluebonnets in bloom are a gorgeous sight in the Texas Hill Country. Are you still trying to decide which wildflower-enveloped town to visit this year? Consider these favorite locations.

Happy Hump Day and Saint Patrick's Day. We thought we would share a little history today about The American West. The ranch does have exotic wildlife but we haven't seen any ferel camels yet. Come on down and see if you can find them.

The American West is a wild and strange place. When you think about the history of the Western frontier, you probably get lots of images coming to your mind:

Billy the Kid, The Oregon Trail, Jesse James, Annie Oakley, Wyatt Earp, the Alamo, the Trail of Tears, horses, buffalo, cowboys…

Now tell me, are ‘camels’ anywhere on that list?

Yep. You heard me right. Camels.

Did you know that feral camels once roamed the plains of Texas? There was even a special department established back in 1856 at Camp Verde Texas called the US Camel Corps. Now, if that ain’t a head-scratcher…

Apparently, the dry landscape of the southwest looked a lot like the deserts of Egypt and so the US Army decided to import 66 camels from the Middle East.

Have you ever been around a camel before? They’re ornery creatures. They spit, throw up, and they don’t listen too well. But, somehow the government deemed their idea a success anyway.

When the Civil War came around, that kinda put a halt to the grand camel experiment when the Confederates captured Camp Verde. The camels were auctioned off to circuses and individuals while some escaped into the wild. Imagine, a few feral camels were roaming around south central Texas until the last reported camel sighting in 1941!
