Karen Emerick, 88, first started fishing at Offut Lake in 1992.
A few years later, she began bringing her granddaughter, Alexandrea Berry, who was just 6 or 7 years old at the time
Karen and Alexandrea have been coming to Offut Lake ever since — nearly 30 years of summers together, and more than three decades of Offut Lake fishing memories for Karen.
Stories like these are a special part of what makes Offut Lake what it is. Generations of families, fishing trips, summer days, and memories that last a lifetime.

Why Do Private Campgrounds Charge Visitor Fees?

We love having your friends and family visit! Visitor fees aren't meant to discourage guests—they help ensure everyone enjoys a safe, clean, and well-maintained campground.

Why are visitor fees necessary?

🚿 Facilities have limits
Every additional visitor uses restrooms, water, garbage service, roads, parking, and other amenities. These costs add up quickly over the course of a season.

💧 Water & sewer systems are regulated
Campgrounds are licensed and permitted based on the number of people they can safely accommodate. Exceeding those limits increases operating costs and can violate state regulations.

🛡️ Safety & security
Registering visitors helps us know who is on the property in case of emergencies, severe weather, medical incidents, or evacuations. It also helps protect our guests from theft and unauthorized visitors.

🚒 Emergency access
Extra vehicles and large gatherings can block roads needed by fire, ambulance, and other emergency responders. Visitor registration helps us manage parking and maintain safe access.

🏊 Visitors enjoy campground amenities
Many visitors use the swimming area, docks, playgrounds, events, or other facilities. Visitor fees help offset the maintenance and operating costs of these amenities.

📋 Insurance & liability
More people on the property means higher insurance costs and increased liability exposure. Visitor registration helps ensure everyone is covered by campground policies and aware of safety rules

For the safety of everyone at the campground, all visitors must register at the office upon arrival and pay any applicable visitor fee. Unregistered visitors will be asked to leave the property.
