Imagine this tarantula crawling into your tent to cuddle in the middle of a cold, spooky night! After killing their prey, tarantulas inject digestive enzymes into the body to liquefy the flesh and suck it up through their straw-like mouths. Is your skin crawling yet?!?
Don't worry, though! With a bite milder than a honeybee sting, tarantulas are considered harmless to humans, eating mostly insects along with the occasional mouse, frog, or lizard. Even so, be sure to give these critters some space. When touched or prodded, they can eject their itchy belly hairs into your skin. And who can blame them? They just want to live their life wild and free in Big Bend where they are protected along with all wildlife.
