Big Bend Getaway

Big Bend Getaway Please visit our main page at https://www.facebook.com/BigBendVacationRentals The carport will protect your car from desert sun and storms.

This custom adobe home is the perfect "getaway" when visiting the Big Bend. Located on 20 acres and at the end of a long drive, the Big Bend Getaway provides seclusion and privacy. Furnished in a western style with modern flair, the house is built for comfort and relaxation indoors and out. Thick adobe walls and efficient heat and air keep it cozy in any type of weather. The large front porch and

screened dining porch provide shade from the heat and protection from flying insects. The main bedroom has a queen bed and its own AC and heater for a perfect night's sleep. The kitchen is equipped with everything you would typically need to prepare and serve most meals. Enjoy your meals in the rock floored dining room or on the dining porch. Relax in the comfortable living room, the semi-private den, one of the porches, around the fire circle, or on the double hammock. If you need a second bed, we'll fold out the queen size futon in the den. If you need a third bed for young children, we'll leave out the inflatable mattress and extra bedding. We can comfortably accommodate four adults on a queen bed and queen futon. Dogs are also welcome. While we typically limit occupancy to four people, we can accommodate a slightly larger group if some are small children. Just let us know so we can make sure you will all be comfortable. If you have a larger group, consider renting the Getaway and the nearby Terlingua Ranch Retreat. The owners are good friends and we often arrange dual rentals. Just call or email us for details. We recommend bringing a good book, or select one from our bookshelves, many about the Big Bend region. Just kick back and enjoy the solitude inside or out. Of course, there are lots of other activities to keep your stay busy and exciting. Watch the abundant birds, wildlife, and desert plant life on our twenty acres or as you walk, bike, or drive along the hundreds of miles of dirt and rock roads of the 200,000 acre Terlingua Ranch. Sign in at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge and hike along the remote and breathtaking trails through the Christmas Mountains. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool and inviting Terlingua Ranch pool (just six miles down the road). Visit Big Bend National Park (just 30 minutes to the west gate) or Big Bend Ranch State Park (just 45 minutes to the Barton Warnock Visitor Center). Enjoy meals, drinks, live music and more at the various restaurants and bars in the area. Sit out at night to watch the stars, tell tall tales, or enjoy a small fire. Drive along some of the most scenic roads in Texas. Raft or canoe down the Rio Grande. Enjoy a guided horseback ride or jeep tour through the rugged west Texas landscape. With so many options, you can return home as relaxed or exhausted as you choose. Either way, you'll “getaway” from everyday life and bring back countless memories.

The peak of the East Corazones from the Getaway. We are back in business for nightly guests after our snowbirds - who had stayed for 2 months left at the end of Feb. The place is booked pretty solid in March and April but check out our calendar on VRBO.com (posted by Vilis)

The Terlingua Creek river bed is approximately 10 miles west of the Retreat. The creek begins in the O2 Ranch less than 70 miles north of the spot of this photograph. It is hard to imagine the force that was required to carve into the stone to such a degree. The creek is now seasonal and flows after the rain. Tom, I and the dogs explore various areas. We might be trespassing, but true explorers...

There was relief from the drought this year. Therefore, we see little tufts of green grass sprouting all over. Before this, we had gray dried out tufts of glue grama. Beautiful in their own way, but green is better!

Review from our Guests from Sept 24-28:

"Your property really is perfect ... it allowed us convenient access to Terlingua, Lajitas, Marfa, Fort Davis, state and national parks. I would (and will) recommend your house to anyone."

Thanks for liking BB Getaway. I (Vilis) don't have any updates because I haven't been down for a few months. I do, however, hope to make it down post Labor Day. I do know that things have greened up quite a bit following our major drought. This will be a great change.

Thanks to all of you who "like" the Getaway. We love sharing the Big Bend region - a special place. Yes, it can be prickly and thorny, but it has tons to offer . If you want to be super lazy, you can just take a look at the rock and plant collection around the house.
