Tim Mecheski bagged this nice buck on week 3 in 2025 at Northern Outdoors - his first time staying here with the unguided hunting package!

Wondering if an unguided hunting package is right for you?

Northern Outdoors is situated in the Maine woods, amongst hundreds of miles of drive-able logging roads that open up to thousands of acres of good deer habitat. The unguided hunt is a good fit if you are comfortable hunting on your own, you have a 4WD or AWD vehicle, basic knowledge of GPS use, and are comfortable walking in the woods and on skidder roads.

Sunday night through Friday morning unguided hunting packages start at $867 and include 5-6 nights lodging, 4-5 days of meals, depending on whether you book the 4 or 5 day package! All meals are off menu from Kennebec River Pub & Brewery, and lodging options vary from a simple hotel-style lodge room, to a small cozy cabin great for a couple, to a 2 to 4 bedroom cabin for a larger group!

November 2025 was a nice season in the woods. We had hunters all three weeks of our season, with multiple sightings of deer -- and moose! Tom Berry bagged this nice buck week 2, on his 13th season hunting with Northern Outdoors. This is Tom's third deer in the past four seasons!

Now is the time to start making your plans for 2026, and we hope you'll make us part of your plans! We're now open for booking for all hunters- new and return hunters- for three weeks of the season. All hunts can be booked as 4 or 5 day, guided or unguided packages:

What a week already for Tim M. from New Hampshire! On Monday, he saw 5 moose, including two sparring bulls (more pics of that later). On Tuesday, he shot this beautiful 8 pointer! 🦌 Tim returned to Northern Outdoors around 7pm Tuesday night after spending a solid few hours dragging this buck out (steep and uphill). Ahhh, the joys of hunting 😆

As an already avid hunter, Tim joined us at Northern Outdoors with the unguided hunting package (lodging and meals only). He's hunted in Maine before with no luck... 2025 in The Forks was his year!

We're closing in on Week 1 of Maine's firearm deer hunting season, and getting ready to welcome 12 hunters to the lodge on Sunday night for the initial "meet and greet", and dinner at the brewpub. Hunters will be in the woods on Monday, bright and early- hoping for their shot at a Maine buck!

Next up, a 200 lb, 9 point buck shot by Jeff Gellatly in 2020 with hunting guide Mike. Jeff's buck got him a patch in the Big Buck Club, and was shot Week 3 of hunting season!
