Sunday 15 November — Kalifi's Traditional Woodcarving Workshop, now at our new seaside venue, Kalifi at the Beach in Kaparis Paralimni.

Trade the desk for the coastline. Pull up a chair right on the water's edge, turquoise bay in front of you, and spend the day learning to carve with your hands instead of scrolling with your thumbs.

Hand tools. Local artisans. Zero experience needed.

You carve. You eat. You leave with something you made yourself — not bought, not mass-produced, made.

Included: full tuition, all materials, a freshly cooked lunch and refreshments using local produce.

Congratulations are in order! We are absolutely thrilled and so proud to celebrate our collaborator Yasmin Gur, an internationally exhibited wood sculptor and educator, who has been selected this year for not one but TWO major exhibitions, the Larnaca Biennale and the Tel Aviv Biennale of Crafts and Design!

Yasmin’s sculptures transform reclaimed and weathered wood into powerful biomorphic forms, shaped by a life lived between the desert overlooking the Dead Sea and twenty years in Brooklyn, New York. With a BFA from Bezalel Academy and an MFA from Brooklyn College, plus years teaching and leading in the New York arts scene, she brings extraordinary depth to everything she touches.
We could not be prouder to have her as part of our team here in Cyprus. Congratulations, Yasmin, this is so well deserved! 🎉

From my home in New Zealand I had been looking for a special way to celebrate my 60th birthday while visiting family in Cyprus.
Fortunately, I found the Cyprus Art Retreats website and immediately began communicating with Tim who organised a wonderful four days of painting and hiking for me.
Travelling solo, I was not part of a group so it was very relaxed and I could work to my own schedule. At the time of my stay, they were hosting a group of 35 for a seminar but this did not mean I was 'lost in the crowd'. The whole team was very attentive and super friendly. I felt like I was part of a big family! They were a lot of fun.
So it was total indulgence to be taken care of while I spent my days painting with my very capable and talented art tutor Francis.
Each day he set up under the shady verandah of Chloe's kitchen in the centre of the village. And there we created art overlooking the valley and beyond.
It was always a dream of mine to experience Cypriot village life and Agioi Vavatsinias did not disappoint.
The local characters I observed and got to know were a key part of my experience. The village itself is so classic of the region. Steep roads emanating out from the Church, main Taverna and Kafenion.
I also did a four hour hike in the mountains nearby guided by Lubi. It was hot in early September! Start early if this is your plan. The scenery is spectacular and I took many photos of the beautiful surrounding mountains, villages and flora for my painting reference library.
I loved every moment, even the hike up to my room each day. I can highly recommend it and I'll definitely be back!

Mark your calendar — Saturday 20th September is your chance to bring the whole family to Cyprus Art Retreat for a day packed with hands-on creativity in the heart of Agioi Vavatsinias!
🪚 SPOON CARVING — led by master craftsman Tony Holdich, a true local of the Troodos foothills who's been carving wooden spoons and traditional pieces for years. Learn a genuine Cypriot craft, hand to hand, from someone who lives and breathes it.
🎨 MOSAIC WORKSHOP — led by our own Emma. Parents and children create side by side, piecing together mosaic art the way it's been made for millennia. A perfect shared project for the whole family.
💡 CHILDREN'S LED LIGHT BOARD CLASS — a dedicated creative station just for the kids, where they'll design and build their very own light-up masterpiece to take home and switch on every night.
All for just €50 per person (€25 for children under 10) — including lunch and refreshments!
Groups are always kept deliberately small, so these spaces will not last.

SUNDAY WORKSHOPS AND MEZE LUNCH!!!
Welcome to the Cyprus Art Retreat in Agioi Vavatsinias, one of Cyprus’s most picturesque mountain villages. At 700 meters above sea level, its stone houses and chestnut-coloured hills offer an ideal setting for creativity, learning, and relaxation.

Our workshops invite you to step away from daily demands and immerse yourself in Cypriot artistry. Guided by local artisans, you will explore traditional crafts that have shaped the island’s cultural identity for generations. They are ideal for individuals, families, and small groups seeking meaningful, hands-on cultural experiences.

We offer:
– Traditional woodcarving: Learn hand-carving with classic tools to create decorative or functional pieces inspired by Cypriot heritage.
– Relief woodcarving: Explore sculptural carving with raised designs, as seen in doors, furniture, and church panels across Cyprus.
– Mosaic: Design and assemble your own mosaic from stone, glass, or tile, from planning and material selection to final image or pattern.
– Children’s workshop: A session for younger participants focused on creativity, play, and safe, age-appropriate, confidence-building projects.
